Progress Springs just arrived!!!
I finally got my Progress springs from Cattman yesterday! I can't wait to get them on. My shocks come in on Monday. I'll be doing the install next weekend if it isn't too cold.
It basically means the 6th gen has a stiffer frame, which helps ride comfort.
You also have to consider that the weights and suspension geometries are different, and that Progress and KYB will design their suspension products differently for each car. Wheels and tires will be a big factor as well. Plus, as you said, it's a personal preference thing on top of all that.
So, the fact that you are okay with Progress/GR-2 doesn't mean someone else with a 4th gen will be.
Does THAT make sense?

Hopefully it won't be too rough. I'm also changing out both axles( I'm starting to hear the popping noises) as well as put on the g35 coupe 17's with 235/45/17. Anything is better than I have now. All of my shocks are blown right now.

Of our 6 maxima's:
1) 95 manual: maxspeed w/tokico HP's, rough everywhere, performs great, very stiff. Feels every bump on the road. 2000 Millenia 16" wheel/tires.
2) 97 automatic: Stock spring w/stock struts, soft everywhere, performs like a boat, doesn't pick up much bumps from the road. Factory wheels/tires.
3) 95 5-speed converted: H&R springs w/Kyb GR2's, average softness, not too stiff at all, performs great, semi-sensitive to every bump on the road, just not as bad as the maxspeed combo above. Factory 16" SE wheels/tires.
4) 96 automatic: Tein S-tech springs w/Tokico HP's, factory like softness, but stiff against turns, performs great compromising factory feel with confort on the road. Doesn't pick up small bumps and cracks on the road as bad as any other aftermarket combo. But when it comes to big bores on the road, this thing shocks pretty hard just like the other combo's. This is by far the best combo I liked so far because of its ride comfort and aggressive stiffness when it comes to turning. Used with Factory 15" honeycomb wheels/tires.
5) 00 3.5 swapped maxima: Coilover combo, not sure what kind, very stiff and very harsh to anything on the roads. Turning was a problem due to fender grinding till we raised it back up to allow at least an 1.7" gap. We are tired of this setup, but it looks too good to be removed. Used with 04 SE 18" rims/tires, and tires wear out easily in 4 months.
6) 95 automatic: bone stock, boat, boat, boat...Nothing else, comfort w/no performance in corners.
I got a spare set of brand new H&R springs w/KYB AGX struts to be tried out, but I'm waiting for a new set of suspension assembly accessories to combo this up without breaking up the existing sets already on the cars.
Above are the setups and reviews of what we have in my family. All the combo's are still on each of the cars I just described.

I'm thinking the same, but for now, I have every reason to believe that S-tech's a tad bit softer than H&R's at minor bumps, but are as stiff as H&R's when it comes to hard corners. That's just the way I feel comparing both cars we got those setups with.

I guess it's just personal preference and how you feel it.
