D2 coilovers or ksports

I have enough to purchase some used D2coilovers or Ksports which will probally run me a little less than 800.

Which would be a better pick for daily driving and for a 2"+ Drop.?

or

I do need to change my suspension asap but would i be better off saving my money for a different set of coilovers? If I do this i'll prob have $1100 to spend by saving for a lil. But if the D2's or ksports arent a bad choice i'll go with them.

What do you guys reccommend?
THanks

They are essentially the same coilover..... only difference is the tightening mechanism for the fronts when adjusting the ride height. I have D2s but personally i like the mechanism on the Ksports since i hate dealing with the allen bolts on mine. Oh.......... ones purple and the other's orange

I assume the coilover kits come with everything to replace your stock springs and struts?

Ksports and D2s have the same features and seem very similar in terms of ride, handling, and reliability.

D2s have Teflon-coated damper body threads, which is nice. But their method of securing the lower mount is a PITA -- if you make a mistake and strip or break the bolts, your car is out of commission until you get replacements. Ksport's method (locking collars) is much, much better.

It also seems that Ksport either is more successful or has more backing; D2 still only has one coilover kit available with no apparent plans to release more, whereas Ksport now has a full line from street kits to full race kits and a remote-reservoir setup soon to be released. Take that as you will.

Boss Chens were designed specifically to be better than everything else on the market. They don't have camber plates or adjustable damping, but the guy who makes them swears that his dampers are way better than Ksport's or D2's. People who have them love them, but there have been so few sets sold that no one knows how good they will be in the long run.

Basically, if it's down to D2 vs. Ksport, take Ksport. Boss Chen is nice and could be better in some ways, but is way too new and lacking in some fairly important features.

Ive had my D2s for 30-40k miles, no problems yet. HBetween Ksport and D2, just go for the one you can get cheaper.

I have a question. I bought a set of D2 coilovers but they are for a 97-00 Nissan Cefiro A33 it says. Don't these work with all 00-03 Maximas? The brand is D2, I'm a bit confused.

He did back it up, a long time ago, when he posted a full review of them. Later in this thread he said do a search to find the info. If you search the Org for "boss chen" (go figure, huh?) you will find plenty of info and a few more testimonials.

A33's review: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=497867
Dr. Klop's review: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=498613

I have a 4th gen set in my possession (which looks absolutely identical to the 5th gen sets, but I guess a side-by-side comparison would review slight differences?) and my full review is forthcoming once I install them.

d00df00d is wrong; Boss Chens were not "designed specifically to be better than everything else on the market". In fact, Larrio has explicitly stated that his coilovers are not for everyone and are not the "best", JICs are. I think he wouldn't mind my quoting what he wrote me in an e-mail recently:

I like to say that JIC's are the best, Teins the most
value, K-sports the most affordable, and Boss Chens
the most comfortable. I won't even mention D2 since I
had their system on my car for 1 year and cannot ever
recommend them to anyone.
Larrio put together BCs for people who want first and foremost a comfortable, noise-free drop with excellent handling and adjustability, for the type of person who drives their Maxima to work but also takes the car to the track. If all you do with your car is track it, BCs are not for you, but for most of us BCs are one of the best suspension options. When I was considering coilovers, I was pointedly looking for a system that did not utilize pillow-ball mounts, but rather the stock upper mounts for quiet and problem-free operation. The benefits conferred by pillow-ball mounts just aren't worth the pain for me. Therefore, TEIN Basics and Boss Chens were my only options. TEINs aren't adjustable and I know the first batch at least had fitment issues (bolt holes to small so they had to be drilled out).

I could have sworn that, early on, Larrio was talking about addressing all the faults he saw with common coilover kits. I took that to mean he was setting out to be better than everyone else, at least considering price.

But either way, if that's the language he's using now, I stand corrected.

I bought them from a distributor for D2. I totalled my Max and bought a 240SX since then.

The sticker says 97-00 Cefiro A33. I'm not 100% sure if it's going to work on a 00-03 Maxima, can anyone shed light, are both the Cefiro and Maxima the same suspension setup?

So the suspension I have from D2 will work on the 00-03 Maximas? Just a little freaked out because if I buy another Max I want to make sure these will work otherwise I'll return them. But they will work even though the sticker says Cefiro 97-01 A33?

ugh, how many times does this need to be said? A maxima is a cefiro, a cefiro is a maxima. The chassis code A33 refers to the 00-03 maximas. The same chassis code isnt going to be used for two different cars.

hey i'm new to the whole suspension thing and was looking into getting some co's. From what i'm reading, are JIC's the best choice if your not concerned with how rough the ride is?

Well it depends on what you want to use a set of coilovers for. Do yo ujust want coilovers so that you can slam your car? or are you going to use the adjustability and actually take advantage of the coilovers? Dont spend the $1800 on JICs if you arent going to use them.

To reiterate what I said: Boss Chens are not the "best" but they are the best if you are looking for quality, adjustability, and a comfortable ride.
