Corner-Weighting Coilovers
Corner-Weighting Coilovers
How much does it usually cost? I'm installing coilovers soon and might want to get the car corner-weighted for better handling.
Also, does anyone know the right/left weight distribution for a 4th gen Maxima (with or without driver)? I know front/rear is about 62%/38% for a 5-speed.
General principles: raising a corner increases the weight on that corner. Does increasing the spring preload on a corner increase or decrease the weight on that corner?

increasing the preload on a corner will generally lower the weight on that corner. but it depends on how far you're talking about turning things and what it does to the ride height.
I forget what the L/R distro was on my car when I put it on some scales (didn't adjust it, just rolled it across the scales to see the numbers), but I was surprised how even it was, especially for not actually setting it. I just set each corner to the height I liked...
I think it was within like 30/40lb.

Your 3rd gen was even left/right without you in it, I take it?
Someone on another forum was claiming that most Japanese cars are designed for RHD so they put the battery on the left side and don't change it for LHD; as a result US market Japanese cars have too much weight on the driver's side to begin with, but that seems an overgeneralization and I suspect is totally wrong these days. On the Maxima, we have the AC and exhaust on the right side, and with a manual tranny there's no way the left side weighs more.
