Brake Dust Shield
Quick question. How many have taken the dust shield off? And did you notice any increase in brake dust? I'm looking for the pros and cons of having the dust shield.
i want to take mine off, but I'm scared not so much about the brake dust, but rather road debris getting in behind the hub/rotor area, especially moisture due to rain/snow/ice. I'm probably being paranoid, but the word of an expereinced orger would be enough to set me straight as well...

After my post I did some research and the only things I can come up with was exactly what you were saying. Debris or moisture. Though I know those who switched to the BBK don't have them. So a simple question would be does anyone notice any negatives of not have the brake shield?
yeah, that's what I want to do, a BBK...but I was scared about getting rid of the shield, but then I see all these guys running without the shields. I did think of a happy medium from a brief look at the shields: somehow trim just the overhang of the shield, the perimeter, where it bends over 90 degrees. It would def involve a lot of work, sweat, blood, tears, cursing, not to mention filing and sanding to prevent that cut portion from staying razor sharp and dismembering some lazy fingers during a rotor/brake job. That's the route I think I'm going when I do the BBK in the next two months. That way the modified shield allows for the placement of the larger rotor, and protects the inner hub/rotor area. But again, like yourself, I would like to hear what the BBK'ers have to say
Don't waste your time with saving the dust sheild. I tried to trim my shield only to find that it hit the inside of the rotor anyway(I have the Z32 setup, other kits could be diff). I have not had any issues with going with out the shield. The only thing that concerns me is a damaged CV boot could "lube up" the inside of the rotor. You don't have to worry about brake dust, the shield is designed to keep stuff off the rotor not control dust.
