Upon my Z32 30mm/13" Cobra install, I had a similar problem as far as the noise goes. I rebuilt my calipers myself using Nissan parts, without splitting the body halves.
On occasion, the noise I was hearing was:
1) consistent with vehicle speed/tire rotation
2) more like the pad dragging on the rotor's face
3) almost like the pad wasn't sticking to the piston upon return
4) happening (and more noticeable) upon slow speed turns (including reverse)
5) similar to bad wheel bearing noise characteristics

From the how-to

I truly don't believe that these calipers were ever meant to be split. Even the new seal rebuild kits do not include the smaller o-ring for the caliper's internal.
