To those whom have to pay for labor.

Theoritcally if you were to do it all over again would you

Do every suspension modification at one time to save on time/money, and get your car to suit your needs to the fullest in one turn around with out recognizing each upgrade individually but as a whole?

Do every suspension modification at seperate times to better feel each indiviudal upgrade and better determine what you like best, or want different etc and pay more money for more labor?

Personally i cannot do intensive upgrades and have to pay for labor so this whole issue is something im interested on what others have to say.

I'd rather do things separately. But I do my own labor whenever I can.

It's more gratifying and noticeable when you do them one at a time and on your own. It also gives you a chance to see what each individual mod does on it's own.

I guess if you did it all at once, your car would transform/change considerably overnight.

only problem with doing everything at once is diagnosing a problem when one arrises. not so much a prob with suspension mods, mainly engine and electronics. but anything can happen

yeah it would be great to do em all my self but not everything is possible to do at home,
my plan is.... spring/struts together, then the LTB stage II(my self) and to top it off when i have $500 laying around the SFC.

So in the end i will pretty much do them all seperately also.

I don't trust mechanics estimates, so I do everything I can on my own.
Recently a guy gave me an estimate for all the suspension work I wanted/needed done of $350. I was like ok, let's see if I can do this, but that was a good price. So, I started doing stuff, I showed up with my LCA's (which he said he could do) to have the bushings removed and the ES put in, he sent me to a machine shop...each side cost me $50...so that's $100 (maybe he would have gotten a discount) but already his 5 hour estimate is junk because he would have had to send them out and leave my car on his lift, and that guy was good, but not fast. I next showed up with my front strut/spring assemblies, he didn't want to touch them. I got another shop full of young guys to do this under the table for $20/side, it took them 3 tries, but they were easier to deal with.

This guy is recommended by a number of local people, but he was going to charge me like $100 to change my wife's front disc pads, when he had everything already apart during the inspection, I said no thanks and did the job (with no lift, no air tools and never doing it before) in under an hour.
So, while he still might do good work, I still am slightly leary. Because at least I know I'll be extra paranoid because my kids ride in my cars, and I know even if I don't have actual experience, I'll research every repair more than they will.

Had you planned on paying a shop to do your struts? Maybe we could get some Philly people together to help.

Or, hell, maybe we could make a gathering out of it, with lots of people modding. The local M3 guys here do that every so often, and it's always fun...
