Fender braces who wants some?
Fender braces who wants some?
Hey guys,
I have been working on expanding our product line at TMS. And on the table right now is fender bracing. So far I have built some for the Supras and will be able to build some for the Maximas on thursday since I have a clutch to do on our 4th gen and can pull fenders then.
Anyway heres the pics of the Supra braces.

bracing
We are going to try to make them bolt on. According to the Subaru boys, this type of bracing really helps the WRX. They sell them for over $200 on several web sites. Welding is always an issue. We plan to pull my 4th Gen in this weekend. She needs a new clutch, and the exhaust needs tweaking. We will pull off the fenders and post up photos of what we come up with. If all goes as planned, we will be looking for 2 or 3 respected org members who cars have highly modified suspension, and want to try them out and post their review here. Sean will post later about the specifics.

You should make these available for 3rd Gens as well. You'd be suprised as to how many you would actually sell. The 3rd Gen guys tend to go all out, and are craving new mods for their cars. Something to consider.
Did somebody say "Supras"???
I trust it's for the MKIV, or are you talking about the MKIII's too??
Nice. You might get multiple sales from me. I look forward to future info. Price, weight, availability etc

Mine not good enough for you?
Unfortunately I have to disagree with you. Nobody's buying 3 gen LTBs, and these are even harder to install for work required. Price will probably be about the same.
the 3 gen is just getting too long in the tooth for people to make anything for them. I would love to have a set and was considering making them for 3/4/5/6 gens a while back, but time and guinea pig cars was my limitation. nobody was willing to let me pull their fenders off to make a set.
But if someone else makes 'em, I'll buy 'em.

IIRC didn't Larrio make a prototype of fender bracing a while back? I don't know if he ever posted about it or ever made any more, but you might want to touch base with him and see what's up with them - share ideas or something?
Fender bars were pretty common with 240s as well as the firewall area is a weak point in that chassis IIRC.
If they will make any significant difference (probably) I will be all over it pending funds.

. But I do think that this would benefit the 4th gen chassis as well... since its so much of a tin-can frame as it is, any lil bit of reinforcement helps. Especially bracing the fenders. All that industrial epoxy holding the car together is no good for the sorts of driving some of us put the Max through. Im very much be interested in these!
No I did not. Sorry. My personal email is sean.truax@gmail.com I check frequently.
Just saw this:
I'm your man.
One of your men.
No homo.
Seriously I'd be stoked to be one of the first to try these out. I still need to shorten the Konis up front but I should be able to give a decent review when I do so.

I would be interested in these as well. Im also a road course/track guy so I can give a honest review if I get to test them out.

Some bling ones from SPL for the 300ZX. They do more than a FSTB and don't clutter up the engine bay area. Only thing is that they are known for dialing in more understeer...
Also I wonder if having only one bolt as opposed to two on the door hinge part would have any effect on these?

So far mkiii and an mkii is coming in this weekend. We will be first offering the 4th gen and after that the 3rd gen will happen. Since we have both those available. The fifth gen might take a few extra days to happen but will happen. And price is being discussed right now. And let me just say it will not be a wallet breaker.

The answer to the OP is: every single Maxima owner with a brain.
The structural sections between the strut towers and the firewall are among the weakest points on the car. Any bracing for them should be right on top of everyone's list for a LOT of reasons.
If these things do add understeer, it should be dialed out through suspension parts (springs, dampers, sway bars, etc.) or tire pressures. Never ever ever EVER forgo a chassis stiffening mod just because it'll affect your handling balance slightly. Chassis stiffness has too many benefits (stability, responsiveness, etc.) that are more than worth a slight reduction in *****-out front grip.
