trying to adjust BC coilovers preload
Installed BC's on my i35 today and needed to adjust the ride height about a half inch in the rears and some minor adjustments in the front.
I messed up and changed the spring load on the left rear, in a rookie mistake. So then I thought I'd reset the preload.

I tried to turn "a" down, to take all the load off the spring. To the point that I had to lock "a" and "b" to move the collar higher. This process continued for about an hour. It seems like there is just as much load on the spring as when i started.
Should I continue the process of raising the collar, unlocking "a" and "b", and lowering "a" to release the load? I'm concerned about the tightly compressed strut boot.

I don't fully understand what the problem is, but I will start by saying it appears as if you have pretty much maxed out your drop. Are you trying to slam your car to the ground?
It took me a minute to understand how it all goes together, but I can now reset preload and adjust ride height in a matter of minutes, so you're doing something wrong.
First I think you will need to raise the ride height up quite a bit because right now I don't think you can even adjust preload since the B ring is right on top of the C ring. So loosen C and raise it all up with A, then tighten C. Once you have about an inch between A/B and C, then you can try and set the preload according to the procedure.

Based on where the car sat when I put it on the ground after the installation, I think I'm going to be somewhere around 25.5", keep in mind I am on 19's. So not extremely slammed in my opinion. Thoughts?

They seem like a quality product, highly recommended and much needed for my worn out stock suspension. Getting them installed and set up at a baseline is what's important to me.

I mean I put wd40 around the collars and in between the collar's so they won't rust up etc for the future. The collars shouldn't loosen. I use the hammer and flat head trick to tighten them up after the spanner wrenches. They can only go so tight with them

I've had collars work loose on my 240 several times. I don't put anything on them and am still able to get them to turn once a year when I need to make adjustments.
And WD-40 doesn't to anything after about a week. it's fish/snake oil. if you want something to last, use real antisieze or lubricant.

Everything cool now. It took a bit of figuring out. Preload was set at 4mm (the thickness of the spanner wrench). Height is at 25.5" all around and set a baseline of 16 on the soft/hard dial. It's not overly rough at all, very forgiving for being that low IMO. Loving them so far!
