It's a fender brace! Oh man what a difference these make! I direct welded and it's awesome. It is pretty close to the tires but i've yet to rub them even on speedbumps and dips, not rubbing yet! Just thought I'd share it here.

looks scary to me, are fenders in the fenders and not the wheel wells?

I relocated them another inch upward, cut the old ones out

And yes, a properly done fender brace makes a world of difference on these cars.
