Would swapping parts be easier then putting the whole 3.5 in a 2000.

Most likely the DE-K and DE cams are //

EDIT: It wasn't a question, SR, whether you read this or not. The joke was never funny, and this is just beating a dead horse. G'Night.

So what is easier to do. Use 3.5 parts in the 3.0 or drop a 3.5 into my 2000.

There you go Nismo:

You will never make any real NA power with these inferior heads unless you have some extensive work done to them. If you guys really want to make power then you need to use the VQ35 heads on your VQ30 blocks.
And at this point Im certain the VQ35 heads can be used with the VQ35 cams with no VTCs if you wish.
And on the flipside of that I am 99% certain (as of now) that the more agreesive VQ35 cams can be fitted onto the VQ30 heads so long as you lighten the valvetrain via VK45 Ti valves and retainers.
I will report the numbers as I get everything measured but I'll give you a short rundown for now.

VQ30 Intake ports: Smaller
VQ30 Intake valves: Smaller face
VQ30 Buckets/lifters: Wider, deeper, much heavier
VQ30 retainers: Heavier
VQ30 Cams: Less lift, less duration

The VQ30 has hydraulic lifters. And as far as I can determin the VQ35 has a solid lifter setup. There just isn't any type of cushioning device that can be called a lifter.
What sucks is that if we're going for N/A power the extra compression (11.5:1 versus 10.3:1 and 10:1) would be good for quite a few hp. We'd need everything from the 3.5 heads except, well, the combustion chamber, instead of the VQ30's 46cc.

The problem is that I don't know much much compression the 3.5 internals will be able to take. 11.5:1 seems really high.

cars come from the factory with higher octane than that. So no worries.

K. BTW, would adjusting the timing higher and running 94 Octane yeld the same hp/tq gains than a smaller combustion chamber/higher compression ratio? Cause I'm not sure the 3.0 heads could be modified with the 3.5 head parts and port matches to perfectly immitate a 3.5 head, except with the VQ30's smaller combustion chamber, which would basically give a nismo head.

I have the 2005 G35 and 350Z ESMs in my posession now. They're only listing the old cam specs.

They're supposed to have new cams and exhaust VTCs. None of which are listed.

You could save yourself alot of headache and get domed pistons.
