First Test Drive Finally

Well I finally drove my max. Yes the vq35 swap is complete but therre is still work to do like hook up my doors and my cd player and my frankencarintake still didnt come in so i took a test srive without a airfilter. Once my intake comes in, i will drive the car everyday. Then I am thinking of getting some gauges for my car to fill in the gap where my climate control used to sit.

First impression are . Car pulls amazing. I didnt want to do anything stupid or dumb after all that hard work so I didnt floor it or anything like that and kept the speed limit. Everything works fine even the ABS System. I got a check engine light for a low speed fan relay but that is not serious. All i can say on the vq35 6 speed swap is that it is .

everything came from a 2k2 maxima. i bought a parts car from a auction for $1550.
and i am not going to keep it stock. i am going to do things to it preformance wise and i already started by buying a intake and later a y-pipe and a cattback system and get my stillen kit put on it. plus i need struts and tires right now cause my tires are bald and well struts are stock ones and that is no good on aftermarket springs. pics i will try to post later.

I meant mods right at the swap.... stuff that is easier to do when its not done yet, such as headers and stuff like that. He swapped the RB26DETT and kept the 2 turbos even though they were in the way since we drive on the left here. his setup is full custom well he doesnt have much pics on his cardomain but here is the link. http://www.cardomain.com/id/s14drift

anyways i really like what you did to your max and i'd love to have something similar I didnt really "plan" on swapping a VQ35DE, i just "thought" about it for a while heh it's pretty hard to find a full engine with everything required. I think you've been lucky. How long did it take you and your brother? like a month working weekends and week nights?

well i didnt work everyday and week nights on it. i took it slow peace by peace to make sure verything is right so probably like a month or less if you work on it everydat especially if you have a shop, then it would be faster probably. and frankencar is making me mad. i want to drive my car.

Man i can't believe that you are finally done. It's been a long time in waiting...

So what's gonna happen when you get performance parts for your car. Are you gonna have to get parts for a 4th gen or 6th?

i will post pics later. and to answer some of the questions above:

motor mount lined up perfect but for the tranny, a 5.5 6 speed tranny mount was used.

for performance parts, i will have to use 5.5 gen perfromance parts like the y-pipe and the intake which i already bought but havent recieved it yet from frankencar. they make me mad.

any other questions?

it took no effort or time to put the 6 speed tranny on. it was bolted to the engine already. all we had to do is get the mount on.
for pictures, i really havent taken any yet as of now cause i still have some things to finish up but i will take pictures.
i will take the car to the track and to a dyno but dont know when. i want to know what # it can run but first i need tires and shocks. plus i am planning on getting some gauges and putting them in where the climate control was before. i am thinking of getting oil pressure, oil temperature, water temperature, and maybe volts. and my frankencar intakes comes in tomorrow finally so i get to drive the car everyday now. whoppeeeeeee.lol

wow, so there is nothing extra needed except 2k2 tranny mounts? everyone told me how 4th gen tranny works with rods and 2k2 works by wire. What special things did u do to get it to work exactly? Also how are space issues? Does this setup put teh front of the car lower than stock setup? engine has same space as if it had a VQ30 in there? You think you can use 2k2 y-pipe than 4th gen b-pipe back or is length different so you'll need custom exhaust? Everything else in engine bay is stock? I cant wait for pics. How is temperature and whatnot? any issues? the way you pulled this off, i dont see why this just cant be new engine swap for maxima's that everyoen has been waiting for....

here is the answer to your question:
tranny mount from 4th gen auto and 5.5 gen 6 speed maxima is different. 4th gen is welded onto the frame, 5.5 6 speed mount is bolted to the frame.
no space issues at all. everything fits perfect and hood closes also. so all those people that said a hood wouldnt close, it does.
i dont know how a 4th gen 5 speed works when you switch gears but a 5.5 gen uses 2 shift cables to shift the tranny.
i did use a 2k2 y-pipe and a 2k2 high flow cat. the b-pipe and muffler is stock.
everything in the engine bay is stock except the frankencar intake with apexi filter.
no overheating issues at all. no problems except a realy for the heater fan.

but i didnt understand what you meant by " what special things i did to make it work"? what you mean by that?

that probally means how hard was the wiring? or did you just switch harnesses and ECUs's was it plug and play? alot of people are really curious. this is a big deal dude you should be really proud of your self. i give you alot of credit, i am a Mechaincal Engineering Senior and i would never have the ballz to do something like that. Great work and hope we can see Some PICS soon!

WOw congrats man. I'm amazed cause so many people said it cant be done. Post some pics when ever you get a chance. Why did u take out the climate control? or did u just relocate it?
