bore out or engine swap?

Ok so my engine is about done and is in need of a major over haul. Ive been thinking of boring it out to a 3.2 or just do an engine swap to a 3.5 from the new maxima. Im wondering if anyone has done this and which one would give me the best performance for my money. Thanks

I don't think one has been bored out. A 3.5 has been put in, but required the use of the entire wiring harness (including ECU). I think a tranny from a 3.5 also had to be used. So basically a 3.5 powertrain with a 4th gen body.

A 3.5 bottom end has also been put in. I don't remember the what the gains were, but the 4th gen electronics were used.

4th gen engines are pretty cheap so you could just replace it and do other mods. Boosting would possibly be cheaper than the other options and has certainly been done more so there would be more experienced people to help you through it.

Are you going to umass or do you live in amherst all the time?

I looked into boring out my block back before tilley droped the 3.5 bottom end in. My machinist dint think it was worth it because there isnt much material he could take off.

I think without labor your looking at $7,800 that means thats the cost if you pull and install the engine yourself

just boring the engine will give you what, another 20 hp (maybe)? with all the associated costs, a retarded way to spend time and money. if you really want performance on the cheap, put another 3.0 in, and hit it with a 75 shot of nitrous.
with saved money, you can buy some common sense.
oh yeah, throw out that copy of F&F you have, it DOESNT provide any good ideas.

Going +1mm on the bore will only take the VQ30 from 2988cc to 3052cc. That would only be worth a few measly hp alone. Hardly worth the cost and effort.

I'd MUCH rather prefer the OEM assembled bottom end then the machinest gamble route.

IMHO, find some low mileage VQ30 heads and follow Tilleys' pioneering example.
