Whats up with using a 3.5 bottomend with 3.0 heads???

Im thinking of rebuilding my engine this winter and I have some questions. Whats the deal with using a 3.5 bottomend with 3.0 heads? I was talking to Dixit on aim a while ago about this and he was saying that even if you port the 3.0 heads, it would still be seriously limiting the performance.

I know at least two people have done this so far - tilley and japmax. As I recall tilley is using vq30det heads and japmax is using ported regular 3.0 heads. So basically I just wanted to get some opinions about the benifits and drawbacks of using a set-up like this. Are the vq30det heads a lot bigger than the regular vq30de heads? Any info on this would be much appreciated.

If you used the VQ35 heads, I think you would have a problem with the 4th gen cam pos sensor. That's the only reason I can think of for using the 3.0 heads. I hope someone finds a solution to this because I am putting in a new motor this winter, and it would be much easier to drop the entire VQ35 in. (me using 00 VI tho)
