Used Engine Break In?

I will be installing a newer engine over Christmas break w/ 32k on it. The thing is that I will not know how long this engine has been sitting in the salvage yard.

After installation, what sort of precautions should I take? Like flushing the motor oil? Any special procedures to start it up for the first time?

Refill it with 5w-30 Castrol GTX and install a new oil filter. Put about 100-250 miles on it and change the oil and filter again.

I am still not convinced of the whole seafoam ordeal. You can clean an engine just fine with a premature oil change interval.

Seafoam is ****. I said a while back that it was great when I first used it. I don't know why I said it, it makes no difference whatsoever. I do like the ATF in the spark plug holes though. Nasty black smoke came out the first time I did it.

Can you elaborate on the ATF in the spark plugs holes?

I know some people use ATF instad of motor flush. Since ATF has so many detergents it's like a mild motor flush. You'd use it the same way as a motor flush. The other thing is using deisel as motor flush, but unlike running the motor for 5mins, you shouldn't use it for no more than 1 minute, cus that's some strong stuff.

I too like the idea of pouring a little ATF down the spark plug tubes.
