any 4th gen ecu work with 5th?

okay, thread title you must be like, wth is he talking about. anyways, i learned this info from a friend. he has a 99 se-l, and took a 95 g20 ecu and put it in his sentra. worked very nicely and bumped his rev limiter from 6400 rpm to 7100 rpm. this was found out by accident or something from some guy on the b14 or se-r forums. anyways, jus curious if anyone tried this on a 2k maxima... or something. Please don't flame... just curious.

Well, I am pretty sure he spliced the wires in hte engine bay, which is easier. I am pretty sure he had hte entire 4th gen harness in the engine bay.
I could put he DE-K in teh 4th gen and use the 4th gen ecu and wireing harness. But for you it is a little harder. You can swap the entire engine harness or you can just cut and reconnect where the ecu is.

Kevlo what about using a 5th gen ECU on a 4th gen (99 cali) with a DEK manifold?
that way you can get a raised rev limiter on the 5th gen ECU (obd-II) to take advantage of the DEK's top end, instead of going with a modified 95-6 (obd-I and check engine light) since any 97-99 4th Gen is out of luck on modified ECUs

ALL 95+ Maximas are ODB2. All of them. 95s have the connection on the passenger side.
95-96s have the best ECU modding options at the moment. The only way to get a raised rev limiter through a reprogrammed ECU. 97-98 can use a 95-96 with only a CEL. I think JWT and maybe TS can get some kind of ECU to work with the 99s. Check with them.
Since you have a 2000, you would have to either use a 4th gen which would be easier or use a 5.5 gen which is for a different engine and I am not sure if it would work. I think TS is working on getting the 5th gen ECU to work but I am not positive on the status of that project.
in short: No you cannot swap another ECU in easily nor would you get a performance gain unless it was reprogrammed.

From 1996 on ALL new cars sold in the USA had to be ODB2 compliant. The 95 max has an ODB2 connection but it does not have the extra emissions, sensors, etc. and the plug is behind the passenger ECU panel.

What I'd really like is the Nissan Consult hardware and software. Too bad that is so expensive.
