calling exhaust gurus.

Here is a copy of my last post on my previous thread.

"ok I am a little worried now. I went and bought new spark plugs since I was still running 1 step cooler for N20. Also I took a test pipe that I had and had a 2.25" pipe welded to it that followed the path of the stock pipe and then exited in front of the passenger rear tire. I thought by running 2.25, and then having a crush bend that I would have a degree of resistance, well now I don't know. The car is slower. I don't know if ECU adjustment will compensate at all, all I know is that it is in fact slower. I don't know what to do. I just have a hard time believing that the factory exhaust with 220K cat would create more power. Any suggestions?"

Now, would it help if I went and bought a straight through muffler that would go where the factory resonator was? (I really could stand it being a bit quieter) I am headed to the track on Friday night, and I need to figure something out by then. Thanks in advance for any help.

well I found thta one of my coils was not making good contact, so I thing that corrected my problems. That aside, does anyone have any suggestions on what would be an optimal exhaust setup for this application? I am still toying with the idea of adding the muffler where the resonator whould be. All suggestions are highly appreciated. I make no claims of being an expert at this.

I'd say they put the resonator where they did for tuning purposes, so it might not be a bad place to start. Most stock exhausts aren't that horrible, as far as layout and pipe lengths go, they just need help with flow and sound
Flowmaster has a fairly good chart on their webpage that shows what size of pipe is ideal with what displacement and horsepower level of different engines, might be worth checking out.
good luck

I ended up getting a Turdo single baffle muffler installed today where the resonator used to be. Seems to have regained any lost lowend grunt. Also sounds much better than the straight pipe. I do dig the exhaust out the side too
