Been playing around with a version of DynoSim S.C edition, and looking for some seriously detailed stock cam info. I have a copy of the 2003 Max dealer repair manual (3 volumes)..and it is falling a bit short on the cam info. Trying to convince myself whether to buy aftermarket cams..or stick with stock. And yes, I know, :: pulls string :: "Corky Bell says It's hard to find a turbo cam, that works better than the stock item."

 

The only real way is to buy a set of cams and put a dial indicater to them yourself.

Maybe I can figure out a way to map cam lift vs angle with my spare VQ35 cams. Any ideas on how to do that easily, anybody? I've got a dial indicator. Maybe it's just a matter of putting a protractor on the cam and measuring lift vs rotation angle.

 

I guess put the cam into a spare head and oil it up. Then secure the indicator to something solid and rotate the cam.

 

Andrew, what information do you need specifically?

 

I've read all the stickies..they don't help too much. The programs cam manager wants these details before it can calculate anything, in all relativity, even I can get this info, I would need the info from tomei, JWT cams..etc, which would be even harder to get probably.
Details: Seat to Seat Duration
Intake and Exhaust Centerline and Max lift
Cam lobe-center angle
Valve Overlap
Ramp rate
Maximum lift at valve

I believe I'm gonna have to get the program to "estimate" these things, and try to get as close as possible to a stock VQ35 dyno curve.

Cam Doctor is the program we need.....

 

I was gonna get that also..but decided not to. Figured I'd see what the dynosim had built into it. Hmm, now I need to rob a bank and get one of those machines..with the vintage 1980s monitor also Might order the cam doctor later today, see what I can do with it towards the endless discussion of to aftercam, or not to aftercam

Hah, "clean dos running program". I saw a company selling versions of the Camdoctor software, that had year ranges in it..for instance, All engines/stock cams from years 1994-2004. It was a bit expensive..but if it actually helps some of us..I'd get it. I'll have to find it again.

 

If it can't calc from peak lift, duration and timing you're pretty much screwed. No cam manufacturer ever gives out ramping numbers.
