Electronic Exhaust Cutout

I've been thinking about this lately, since my top end isnt all that great. Would it be a decent alternative to VI? I know it'd end up being ATLEAST half the cost, but are the gains decent up top?

I think it'd be fun to be able to open and shut it while cruising around, top end when you need it, but then close it and its nice and quiet.

i plan on getting one so that I can still keep my stock exhaust. hopefully it'll help me get a little quicker than my PB 14.25.

It is not an alternative to the VI whatsoever, the hp curve will still have the same shape, just some more hp. The VI changes the complete shape of the curve and provides significant gains. I like my cutout, but I mainly use it at the track, it is too loud for the street.

Well I know it wont change the curve, I mainly meant that it could be an alternative for more top end. I know it'll never put out the top end a 2000VI could, but its a lot cheaper. Better than nothing I guess, you could open it up for highway use then close it after you reach the speed you want. I just hate how much top end we could potentially have, but we don't. And us Autos really see it with our taller gears.

Not a great mod for a lowered car that is daily driven, it hangs low. There is a pic on my cardomain page two.

So would you say the power gains up top are worth it for doing this mod? Im really looking to increase the power from 5000rpm-6500rpm, but I dont want to sacrifice low end.

It was good for me, but I have tons of supporting mods, it might not help you. I would do it as a last mod.

I have a cutout welded into my test pipe, but when I went to install the electric cutout I ran into clearance issues with the floorboard. From the looks of it 96sleeper, it looks like you mounted yours facing towards the passenger side of the car. Did you have any clearance issues? I would really like to get mine installed....but don't really know how...any tips 96sleeper? My cutout faces the drivers side since otherwise the motor for the cutout would be facing towards the ground and could potentially get messed up.

did that video ever get hosted? also need more pics of the clearance issues...

if not, I can probably host it...pm me...

btw, which one is better, the mcgard or the quicktime performance electric cutout or are they pretty much the same? I know the mcgard is cheaper, but after doing the research, with the mcgard you have to add a cutout/y section from summit which adds another 30-40 dollars so they end up pretty close in price anyway...
