Fired up the 3.5 Today, little bit of smoking

Wow, I am glad it started up, but it was smoking a little bit in the front bank. The engine has been sitting for I assume quite a while now, I hope that goes away. I did spill a little bit of oil when filling the oil, but I dunno, we'll see how it goes. Maybe I have to wait until the oil circulates throughout the engine, since its all been drained out?

PS: This thing without the y-pipe sounds just incredible!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was filling up the tranny and about on the 2nd bottle it started leaking, and I found out I had ordered a axle seal for an LSD: So I need to get a new oil seal and install it before I can drive. In the meantime, I need to look for a belt for my alternator, top off the fluids, bleed the brakes, and finish up my projectors.

BTW: First drive will be next week, or when the oil seal comes in!

Yeh, but I had the iacv hose unplugged, so I had to gas it to keep it alive.

Another 3.5 4th gen. I love it. I have a 5/5g and a 4g, and I could imagine the 4g with the 3.5, makes me almost wet my pants, and not like a 2 year old, more like a 14 year old.

Yup, I sprayed some liquid wrench in the cracks and slowly hammered it out.

4th gen tranny is fine.

It's alot like trying to hold a 200 pound dog on a leash, for lack of a better analogy. The car just wants to lurch forwards.

Yes mine did the same thing. Lasts maybe 10 minutes. Take it for a drive and it should go away. Then again, my entire exhaust system is brand new, so I dunno for you...

I can now get some rest at night!

BTW: My exhaust is new except for the exhast manis, and cat. But they sure end up pretty oily after I put them on.

You added headers right? Did you use any grease to make them stick to the block while you put the headers on? the grease could be burning off or the coating on the headers could be burning (I hope also). What color is the smoke? I'd hatge to see you guys do all of this work only to have a bad black but I'm sure you checked the engine out before installing it.

Nope. Just stock exhaust manifolds, and a y-pipe, they got somewhat greasy tho, and I sprayed liquid wrench onto the y-pipe studs to make the nuts go on easier.

Broaner you were right. Driving without power steering aint really hard... I think I'm gonna leave it like that for a while. Maybe add some liquid once in a while. I've been told that driving without PS may not be good for the direction components after a while.

Well today is a sad day... Although I got it on the road, and it is ungodly faster than the 3.0. It is leaking oil like no tomorrow. It is leaking around the seal of the oil pan. The transmission is also covered with I think what is tranny fluid, but I could not find the source of the leak.

Do you HAVE TO use a certain type of RTV?

Also, I have to play with the idle more, the whole time it idled at 3300 rpm... And I think my clutch is about done... What a mess.

Do you feel like low 13's fast? I would like to see a 3.5 swap out run Sr20 in the next couple of months.

You need slicks to run low 13s...

He isn't going to really feel the 3.5's potential unless he advances timing to what 2k2's run.

The untuned 3.5 pulls incredibly hard even with a broken Knock Sensor and low timing, but there is more hidden potential then what the first drive gives you.

That sucks. I was scared of that so I reused the 3.5 oil pan. Get the sealer directly from Nissan, that's what I used for the timing chain (it's gray)

RTV?

If you're looking for a great clutch replacement... get the clutchnet. I set mine for 300-350 pounds of torque (you can set it for whatever you want) and pedal feel is barely harder than stock. The only 11-second maxima on here uses that.

As for the idle... I don't get it. Mine idled around 1400 and has no IACV yet...

Well there is oil resting in the part where the KS is, and in front of the lower IM. I do not know where it is coming from. Inside my IM is dry. My neighbor mentioned something about blowby oil...

On the bright side, my friend timed me 0-60 5.4 secs

I am speculating that a sub 5-second 0-60 is possible when my OBDI conv. is done. And yeah, I pulled that out of my @ss.

Did you see oil as soon as you got back from a short drive? I took 3 short drives and there was about 1 hour, 1h15 minutes between the moment I pulled out for the first drive, and the moment I stopped the car for good, and no oil nothing

Yeah, my friend first noticed it leaking when I stopped for gas. The thing I don't understand is there is fresh oil in there, but the oil that is leaking out is pure pitch black... The bottom of the transmission and engine is a mess..

The future of this car is not looking good.

How long was the first drive? You started the car Friday, then let it sit for two days, and took it out for a drive yesterday, right? After you started the motor on Friday, you didn't notice anything? Only leaked after you drove it for 5-10 minutes?

Did you check around the timing chain covers? Also, VQ35's are prone to leaky rear valve covers (that is what I heard). And of course the oil pan. But for the transmission I really have no idea...

Sucks man, I hope mine doesn't do the same in the future (didn't touch the oil pan though)...
