Post Problem with MEVI

W'sup my maxima obsesses people. How are you guys doing today?
Ok, enough with the formalities...
Okay let's get to the point.

Car: 97 Maxima 5 speed
Mods: Intake, y-pipe, and a custom 3 inch piped exhaust (no resonator, all piping) with a gutted muffler.

New Mod: MEVI

Problems:
1) Rough idle. Idles around 700. Constant little rumble out of the exhaust. IE. Putt putt putt putt..... kinda like how those V8 muscle cars idle...
2) I hear some knocking around the TB area. It's not that loud and can only be heard when you are about two feet from the TB. Could be the valves from the cylinder closest to the TB but I'm not sure. Could be I'm getting multiple sparks but that would show when i do an OBD scan shouldn't it?

Anyone who has done the MEVI mod has run into this problem for sure. How did you guys fix it?
3) Between TB and IACV there are two vacuum tube fittings.
-On stock manifold the lower is small and the upper is big.
-On MEVI, both are small.

-I used a small hose clamp and tightened the big hose onto the small MEVI fitting. Is this okay? How could i fix it?

Has anybody had any of these problems? How'd you fix it? Is it supposed to idle rough?

Double check to make sure you reconnected all hoses and electrical connections.

The ticking may be your IACV... did you get the other problems figured out that I replied to in your thread in the 4th gen forum?

You could fix the vacuum hose size difference by getting a fitting that steps down from a larger size to a smaller one, so you can plug the larger hose into one side of the fitting, and the smaller one into the other side, viola!

Yep, I've got the first problems figured out nealoc. The MEVI is running like it should be now. Thx.

As for the ticking IACV... what could be wrong with it? Why and how would the IACV start ticking though?

They tick stock as far as I know... All 3 of my 4th gens do it. If they aren't supposed to do it I don't know what causes it, but all 3 cars have set various 1/4 mile records so I don't think it will hurt performance at all hehe.

Yeah, I always hear some sort of ticking near that area in my car when it's idling. I'd say it's normal

Hmmm.... I'd love to believe that it is a stock noise. But the fact of the matter is that I've never heard it before when my car was completely stock......

It doesn't seem to be effecting the performance aspect though. I am keeping up better than before with my brother's GSR'd CRX. Usually when he punches it in 2nd gear he'll instantly take off from me and just keeps pulling farther and farther. Now, going 35mph or so, he takes off ahead by 1-2 car length. When the VI kicks in, we stay even until third gear. He then pulls ahead more and we stay even again once the VI kicks in.

Pretty good for just an intake manifold.

I can't wait to get the JWT ECU. With it I'll get more low end power and be able to keep up with him from the take off.
