Go with headers. Y-pipes for 5.5th gens suck.

The reason y pipes dont make as much a power increase on a 5.5 as they do on 4th gens is because we (4th geners) have the precats on the stock ypipe. So when we get an aftermarket ypipe we eliminate those precats and that's where the incredible power comes from (around 15WHP with a CAI, 11-12WHP on its own).
BUT, 5.5 gens have the precats on the exhaust manifolds themselves (the stock headers), so for them to see the power increases we see, they get aftermarket headers (which in their larger motor I've HEARD of close to 20 WHP). Someone correct me if I'm wrong

I've heard of 25whp for headers on a VQ35.

4th Gens have 4 precats right? 2 on the Y but where are the other 2. I thought it was the headers, but if that was the case then why don't headers help on 4th gens?

99 cali 4th gens have 2 precats and 1 cat. 1 precat on the exhaust manifold and 1 precat on the ypipe.
