Sleeper cam suggestion
Sleeper cam suggestion
Im looking for cams that have a very high rise, but not that long of a duration. I'll be getting new valve springs to help shut the valves quicker from the high rise, but I don't want the lobe- I want it to sound stock. Anyone have any suggestions? The only ones I have found are the cattman cams, and I heard JWT produced custom cams, but I don't like dealing with Jim Wolfe because of his lack of customer support/manners on the phone.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Jim wolf are the only VQ30DE cams made (these are also the ones cattman sells). If you want different ones, you will have to have custom ones made or make some VQ35DE cams work.
Thank you for your help everyone.
I got this idea from a friends 95 Cobra. Yes, I realize the market support for a Mustang is amazing compared to a Maxima- but his setup gave him over 100(mm?cm?) rise and has the stock duration. He had to get some stronger valve springs to get them to close fast enough, but the gain was flat -amazing- and it sounds stock still.

it is not worth putting in hotter cams, unless you already have an opened up exhaust (no restrictions from stock headers/ypipe, b-pipe, muffler) and a good intake manifold with a VI (either 00vi or a MEVI) otherwise you will not gain ANYTHING in the higher RPM range (where the cams would flow best)
cams are a later stage install, because you already need to have a setup that flows great, and you might want to look into a Pathfinder TB with all the extra added air flowing in the top end, and better response (depends who you ask)
with all the above said: look into Pathfinder (PF) CAMS they are same duration (except intake, with a better lift)
here are the OEM VQ cam Specs:
http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=414267
as you can see:
VQ30DE: Intake Duration 232deg, lift 8.55mm
Exhaust Duration 232deg, lift 8.55mm
Overlap 6deg
Pathfinder VQ35DE: Intake Duration 230deg, lift 9.0mm
Exhaust Duration 232deg, lift 9.0mm
Overlap 3deg
for a boosted application, the extra lift will be good, but don't forget about overlap, which is a VERY BIG issue when BOOSTED.
The PF cams duration is also slightly shifted, from 3deg BTDC, to 3deg ATDC (6 degrees later)
PM me and we'll talk more on the subject.

but it seems you want to use the vq30de intake cams and vq30dek exhaust cams?
what kind of idle would we have with the JWT cams? would it be annoying? who on here has them? with full bolt-ons and tuning, are they worth it?
how much low end is lost with the JWT cams if anyone has them on here...
