If he has 1700$ for his vq rebuild I'd drop a 3.5 in with that money.

For real, if its blown man drop a 3.5 in there. Will cost less than a rebuild and give you a ****load more power.

We 3rd gens cant swap in a 3.5 with $1700. Unless you do the work your self. only 1 person has done a VQ30DE swap and even it may not be real but alot of people think it is. It would be VERY VERY hard.

i have to replace with a salvaged 3.0 engine. it turns out to be shot. So I ended up rebuilding the 500 dollars motor with an extra cost of 2250 bucks. my total is about 2800 altogether. if i'd known about this crap, i'd went with tilley's 3.5L swap-in.

well, it's all too late.

so you think about it. rebuilding can cost a lot more if there are other problems along the way...

Engine misfiring can result in unburned fuel lighting off when it hits the cat. You should be able to hear or feel the engine misfiring though.

Does OBD-I detect misfires ?
