Read it a bunch of times. All I am asking for is confirmation on my assumptions from what I've read. Thanks.

It's the same block. It is physically identical to the VQ30, save for a few details (like plastic valve covers, intake manifold). That's why there is no fabrication or transmission change involved.

Thats the same way I feel. I don't have $800 to put into a headers/y-pipe setup. I can do $300 for the OBX. How are the Hotshot headers? Are those better than OBX?

The design of the Hotshots are better than the OBX. I got mine for $535 shipped. Not that bad.

So then the HP gain must've been phenomenal at high engine speeds?

The data has never been posted here, so I guess I was talking out of my exit.

Thanks... Just need to figure out the entire game plan.

Right now this is how my shopping list is looking:

3.5 motor - $900 - $1500
Headers/y-pipe - $300 - $900 (depends on brand)
Upgrade TS ECU - $150
PF Throttle body $300 (From Stephen max unless there is a way to keep cruise control with the 2K2 throttle body)
Nismo FPR - $125
Apexi VAFC-II (Adjust air/fuel ratio and control VI) - $225
Labor and misc. parts - $$$

Anything else I am missing???

Well I have an Excedy Stage 1 that has been in the car since July or August. I wasn't sure if I should just change the pressure plate or disk or just get a new clutch. Really don't want to spend $350 on a clutch. ALready have a lot of expense going into this project.

Mike,
I hope the best for you no matter which route you go....
If it were me, I would do the 3.5 no questions asked.... ALOT more bang for your buck and more potential....
One thing I gotta say though... If you do the 3.5, you've gotta let me see what it's like with a 3.5 in the 4th gen!!

Take it easy man!

Don't worry. I come back to Durham at least twice a year. I will be down after April sometime this summer. I'll give you the test drive.

I would rather experiment with the 2k2 IM. I have something I want to try if I can get my hands on a spare IM.

Does SR20DEN have a secret IM mod? I thought I read that somewhere. I e-mailed and PM'ed him about it and he never responded. I didn't ask him what it was but I wanted to know what the gains were and how much he charges. Anybody know what I'm talking about?

Also, I called Kinetix to see if they would be doing anything for the Maxima VQ35 and they said no...(THEY SUCK) The one for the G35 and 350Z looks sick. But hopefully someone can do something with this IM to give us some better gains.

Kinetix are a bunch of 'tards. They're making an IM for VQ35 Altimas, which should and will fit 100% of VQ35 Maximas, yet they're denying that it also fits on Maximas. Talk about cutting your profit in half.

I think they are saying that because I believe 3.5 Altimas had an EGR port on the IM. Still it's not a good enough reason to not sell them for Maximas also. Simply add a block plate.....

EDIT: Maybe not....

OK... so with that being said, should I just get an Altima 3.5 since I read in the stickies this can fit in our cars as well? I mean I see the Kinetix IM is about $900 but I wouldn't mind doing this if I can get some substantial gains. (20-30 HP) Is this possible by going wih an after market IM?

OK... I totally understand what you are saying. So once it is in production will anyone be attempting to install one on there 3.5?

Also, does anyone think 20 - 30 HP is attainable from this mod?

Few people are going to buy the Kinetix for their max's because it will probably only gain around 10-12whp for 800$US. I totally pulled this number out of my @ss, but watch if it doesn't end up being that amount anyway. Mark my words.

I personally am not shelling out the 1k$cnd (once it gets here) for this because I know I can build a better intake system for my own car myself for less than 1/3 of that cost.

These guys could (and should) make a marketable intake manifold for 400-500$ or so. There's no reason not to be able to sell an IM that actually makes good power for that price. The problem I think, is that all aftermarket VQ35 IM's I have seen are overengineered. You don't need Chrome and and shiny crap to make power.

The Z crowd have too much disposable income lol

Just wanted some opinions based on whether I should just go the extra step since the DE-K is already a "sort-of" custom job? I mean I have read in this forum about everyday in every post talking about both and the only reason I am skeptical about the 3.5 is because I can't handle any long term headaches or cost associated with this motor as far as getting it to work correctly. The person I would have do the job is the same person responsible for the DE-K motor that was put in the third gen not too long ago...(see 3rd gen forum with pics for DE-K in 3rd gen) so I am confident in his level of work. Just don't want to come out with a long term dilemma like it seems Black bird was having and from reading in his post, I'm still not sure if he has it right. Please advise. Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

170k and you want it to last 2-3 more years? i'd say keep the engine, 170k is fine and you have at least 2-3 more years in it. it'll save you a headache and a half and more money for your house.
