tranny fittment?

Would a 2002 5 speed bolt up to a 2000. I am doing a 5 speed swap eventually and it seems you can get the 2002 5 speeds for cheaper w/ less miles than the 2000.

If the 2002 does bolt up then i would have to use the 2002 shift rod linkage and shifter assembly?

you mean 2001 5 spd or 2002 6 speed.

the 2002 6 speeds don't use shift rod linkeage.. they use cable lines.

Well i thought the 2002-03 only came in a 6 speed manual, but i was just looking on car-part.com and they have a few 5speeds listed under the 5.5gen year modles

However the 2002 Altimas have a 5spd with the 3.5 motor. And I think they are shift rod operated.

ypu like everybody said the 5.5 gens are either auto or 6 speed and the 6 speed are cable operated. the cables hook up to the shifter assembly which directly bolts to the floor.

Just about every FWD Nissan tranny from 2002+ is cable shift. The 02+ Maxima 6 speed also has a different mount setup. They are stronger, but from what I have heard it is not an easy install to say the least.

dont mean to bash on you but the info on the install of a 6 speed mount is very simple. it is bolted to the frame with 2 bolts instead of being welded like the older 5 speed mounts. remove the spot welds on the 5 speed mount, remove the mount, grind and make sure the surface is clean, drill 2 holes and bolt on the mount. if that is not a easy install then what is?

What is the problem w/ the 6 speed install? isn't it something w/ the flywheel?>

I wouldn't say they're WRONG... But maybe we're not considering the fact that there is a 5spd tranny for 2002... 'cept it's AUTO.

I suppose that is not the hard part then, but the 2-3 people who have done it said it was too much work and not really worth it. I think tilley was one and maybe someone at NRH or somthing.

The flywheel and clutch are different and weight almost 2x as much as the stock 5 speed.
