out of my knownledge problem

Okay so heres the scenario. I messed with my clutch pedal to adjust the distance (properly I might add) drove down the road about a mile and the whole time it sounded whiny (like the clutch was spinning a little instead of being fully engaged. I put my hazards on and drove back as slow as possible incase I adjusted it too much and it was fully engaging and in that case would burn. I immediately set it back to spec. and went for another drive.

PS I don't think its slipping because I tried the test.. put it in a high gear and lug along and floor it to see if it slips under the strain and it didnt.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN I ACCELERATE.
1st-if i floor it, only about 1500 rpms are gained then the engine just basically sounds like it shuts down and doesnt accelerate again until i let off the gas and go again. If I gradually increase it reaches about 5000 rpm then all of a sudden feels like it dissangages in a similar way. Sometimes its not as consistent and while holding the gas it goes, lets go, goes, lets go in a quick series sort of. (feels like its trying to engage or like a misfire or something)

2cd-SAME AS 1st- only misfire feeling, as it if gains, loses, gains loses power kinda.

3rd- hardly accelerates at all. reaches 3000 about and stutters.

4th- almost literally doesnt accerlate. Makes the noise as if accelerating uphill (bubbly) and hovers around 2000 rpm, 40 mph max.

5th- have not even tried.

*** i have yet to pass about 5000 rpm succesfully. New idea is a misfire or something which causes that rapid hp gain/loss feeling.

More noticable in lower gears because it is more sensitive.

higher gears simply dont gain rpms.

HAD RESET BATTERY WHILE ADJUSTING.

It sounds like your coilpacks. My beater had the same symptoms when I bought it. If it was his maf the car wouldn't past 3000rpms, ever.

AWESOME! ha so wait. Why would this result from adjusting the clutch pedal? And can I put it back to the adjusted position then because I kinda liked it. (engaged quicker and felt snappier, hell I am a kid I like the sport feel)

Do what you want, it wasnt because of the clutch adjustment, its just probably bad luck.. :\

2000's MAF's dont go completely bad that you cannot pass 2K rpms, i've seen/known a few who's MAF are bad but they can still drive the car, just massive powerloss....

I've never heard of that. You learn something new every day. Still sounds like a coilpack problem to me in this instance, symptoms seem identical to those that my car exhibited when it was having coilpack probs.

Is there any way to test either of these without like equipment or anything just to get more specific about which it actually is? I'm bringing it in tomr to the garage but Ive known the guy for a while, he should be able to diagnosis right?

P.S. Do you think this is purely coinsidence that after adjusting the clutch it happened? There were no previous symptoms or anything. What actually causes these things to suddenly fail?

Probably is a coilpack, but if that fails, i'd check on teh MAF to rule that out...

Browse teh 5th gen forums, they always have a MAF thread on the 1st page.. lol
