best way to remove engine and tranny together?

Can both be removed together out the top of the car? Which is the best method for removing both? Is it easier to drop the transmission out the bottom and then pull the engine out the top? People that have done it several ways let me know. I have had the tranny off several times, but I have never removed the engine. Do you jack the car up, remove the crossmember and exhaust from the bottom, then lower the car, and remove the engine and tranny from the top?

it really depends on the tools you have. if all you have is a floor jack and some jack stands, then dropping it is the way to go. i have dropped to motors and trannys this way. its pretty simple if you have a highlift jack and large stands.

if you have a cherry picker, just pull it up and out. it seems like less wenching from under the car.

If you remove it from the top you either have to 1)drop the tranny first from the bottom and the remove the engine or 2) have to angle the engine and trans at 60 degrees to remove it.Bottom is easier IMHO

I have a lift. Is it really that hard to pull them out the top together?

Lower the car with the wheels off on the lift. Then make sure have a cradle type thing to set under the engine and tranny.Let it down on the cradle then go up on the lift enough to clear the engine. Then slide engine out and use cherry picker if you have one lift and move the both around.of course you gotta do alot more steps to actually get it out.But do you get what im saying?
