VAFC-II Problems

I need some assistance. I went ahead and tried to install the VAFC-II today.

My set up includes

Power wire to Terminal 67
Ground wire to Terminal 10 (Brown wire closest to ECU)
Ground Wire to Terminal 10 (Black wire 1 cm away from Brown Wire)
Green Wire to Terminal 5 (RPM Tachometer)
Gray Wire To Terminal 23 (Throttle Position Sensor)
Yellow Wire to Terminal 54 (Closest to ECU)
White Wire to Terminal 54 (1 CM away from Yellow Wire)

I connected the Yellow and White Wire directly to Terminal 54's wire without useing the connectors the wiring diagram shows.

I first put the ignition key to the on position and set up the VAFC-II with 01 IN and 01 OUT, 6 cylinder, and the arrow in the Northeast position.

When I started the car the first time everything seemed to be normal under no load. As soon as I stepped on the throttle the rpms went up than dropped all the way down and died. Tried starting the car again and the engine light came on. Check the code, which was 0102 and cleared the code on the ECU.

I looked at the wires for the MAF sensor and they appeared ok. Went ahead and tried to apply a little throttle and got the same problem. It just died. So I disconnected the VAFC-II and just checked if everything is operating normally. The only noticable effect was that my idle is lower than before. Its idling around 550 rpms. It used to idle around 750. I drove the car around and it hasn't died yet.

My question is do you have to use connectors when splicing into Terminal 54's Wire? And how can I fix this.

P0102 Mass or Volume Air Flow Circuit Low Input- Check your connections to your MAF.

I know what the code is. I think I might have spliced into the wire too much and its creating too much resistance when I plug the VAFC-II. Normal driving is fine and doesn't seem to throw a code. I'm going to resplice the wires as per the instructions and see what happens.

Yea, thats what I did I stripped two sections on the wire. I just checked the wiring diagram. It shows an x in between the yellow and white wires. That makes a whole lot of sense.

Damn, and I read site layout plans all the time. Thanks.

Like steven88 said, you need to actually cut the wire. Splicing it in two locations is not the proper method.

let us know how it turns out....

do you have a VI of some sort to hook up the VTEC wire to? If so, what RPM switch are you running?

Thanks Steve. Got it to work. Just had to cut the wire and connect the VAFC harness in two locations. I'm planning on putting the VI in May. Have to first make the adapter plates then planning on getting it dynoed.
