CAn someone inform me on the DE-k

Okay, this is what I'm wondering:

I have been studying the 3.5 swap and that is what i've been planning on doing. I also thought about maybe just turboing my 3.0 but it does have a lot of miles, over 140,000, which I would not feel comfortable doing with the milage.

I've also seen the good gains people get with the 00'VI. So i've been wondering if it would be a good idea to just save the hassle of doing the 3.5 swap, and just put in a DE-k, and then turbo'ing it later.

The only concern I have is that I just purchased a Technosquare ECU, and I believe it wont work with the DE-k? Is that right?? I could be wrong...

So if I decide to do a DE-K on my 98, is there anything else that I need to do, as far as customize or change out? Or will it basically just drop in and work?

I need to see what my options are so I can be prepared and convinced by the time I get the cash for the engine (whether its the 3.5 or the DE-k)

Thanks in advance!

thanks!

I was reading it and it's very intersting and seems a whole lot easier than the 3.5. Hmm... got a lot of thinking to do.

TS ECU will work with the DEK or 3.5.

I would make my decision on how much power you want to put down then go with what will obtain that power reliably.

Well I've heard that the 3.5 swap wil give your car a rough idle. I would love to put in the 3.5 but at the same time, I dont know if it would be relaible enough to take about 6 hr trips and things of that sort.

Would a 3.5 swap be a comforting drive? I've read somewhere that you lose your cruising gear, which i'm assuming thats 5th gear, or is that only for automatics?

Why wouldn’t the car be able to drive 6hrs? Once you install the engine properly there is no reason why it should run for a 16hrs trip. Who has rough idle? I’ve heard at start up some have had a rough idle but it went away after the car was warm.

Someone lied to you. My car idles fine, and i've driven it for about 20 hours for the last week and a half, no complaints, and no exploded car. why would you lose a gear if you're using the same tranny? Common sense, man.

i wasnt thinking literally losing a gear.... I had read somewhere that you would lose the cruising gear and I just thought it meant that when driving in 5th gear, you would be driving in higher rpms than normal... as in stressing the engine because of constant high rpms-- This is why I was asking on going on long road trips-- the fear of stressing the engine if what I heard was true. Sorry!!

I give props to a lot of you guys because of your knowledge but ease up with the attitudes! Everybody starts off learning by researching and asking questions. I know the basics of mechanics but i'm trying to learn all I can. Sorry if my questions are a waste of your time!

it's not a waste of time, but by learning how some of these things work, helps. www.howstuffworks.com. The only way you'd be at a higher rpm is if you change the gear ratios in the tranny. I got all my knowledge from here, and other various places online. And I don't mean to have an attitude.

how stuff works is very informative. I've gone in there several times to research stuff. I've learned a lot through the org and asking around... I've also gone through my brother's old books that he got from AAI.. it's pretty amazimg how engines work!
