Z IM questions

So I've been interested in the Zim and looking at the 350 forums.

I called a dealership and asked about the difference between the 287hp and 300hp lower plenum. They said the ports are different and if I was trying to do this with my motor "i should go with the 287 plenum".

Well from what he said the 300hp version has more aggressive intake cams. I don't know how this would make the ports so different that I couldn't use the 300hp ZIM.

Any input? Also, whats the deal with the Z plenum not having butterfly plates; is it making more power just like that?! Just confused as to why the max has a VI and the Z doesn't.

i would say he told you to get the 287 intake because the 300 has different cams which you would need to take advantage of the different runners. the ports im pretty sure are the same, but the runner lengths are different.

What if I used a piggyback tuner though? The Mrev guys use the 287 lower plenum with the MD spacer.

you still wouldnt get the full potential of the high RPM hp without the cams. you could get some of the power back, but you would see a loss at lower rpms. i would go for the 287. however, dyno's have been done that show overall without using VTC's, a Z im has less area under the curve than the 2k2 im. so maybe you should stick with the 2k2 im on your vq

Anyone ever try and pull MAF V on an A32 to gain some torque? This might help build some area under the curve when using this IM set-up.

No worthy a sticky or anything, but this thread could probably answer a couple of your VQ35 intake manifold questions.

You're better off modifying the stock 2k2 intake manifold.

Z manifold modifications can be found all over this forum. I don't think there are any on 2k2 modifications.

I do miss the big torque my 2k2 IM. However, the Z IM with MD spacer did give me 20 whp (13 w/o spacer) more at than the "stock" 2k2 at 6500 rpm. Couple the Z manifold with aftermarket cams or forced induction and you are in for plenty of high end power.

Just because there aren't many threads about it doesn't mean people haven't done it or it can't be done.
