Need Questions Answered Please!!!!

Well my 98 max started making a ticking noise this past friday. The noise is coming from the engine. At idle u can hear it and when you accelerate the noise gets louder and faster as the car moves I went to my local shop(non Performance) I usually go there for little things. They listened to the car and said it was the lifters and what not. Before i start getting into my question i just wnat to clarify that i wanted to turbo my car. So i'm going to be asking these questions but also keep in mind that i want to turbo my car. Also if u think that it would be something different please let me know.

I'm thinking should i just fix that lifter problem with the motor and thats all?
or
Should i get my engine rebuilt?? If yes, are there stronger internals?
or
Should i just get a different used vq30 swapped in??

Also i'm in Socal Los angeles area so if anyone can point me in the right direction of good shops and good prices on parts. Thanks. Sorry it's so much but my head is just spinning right now b/cuz i'm just confused on which route to take.

"Resolve the lifter problem?" --Only if it is the cheapest option
"Rebuild?" --Don't even think about that ... 3.5 swap
"Used VQ30" --Only if you find a low mileage one at a STEAL of a price.

where is the sound coming from? which side of the engine bay? how many miles on your motor? you need to find out what is wrong with you car for sure. they said lifters, go somewhere else..I would go to nissan because I know people there and see what they say. if you motor needs work a shop will not be cheap taking it apart and fixing it..if u were going to turbo anyway look into the 3.5 swap. This is only if the other places you go to say there is a definite problem that is going to cost some money to fix.

injectors tick as well, and can be very loud at times. I'm assuming injectors over lifters.

get a 2nd opinion.

Is the car doing anything out of the normal?

Well the motor has 130,000 miles on it. Not exactly sure which part of the engine it was (I'll go check at my break). The car is running good still. Other than the ticking It doesn't feel like it's lost any power. It's still idling fine but my clutch isn't grabbing too great. I'm in need of a new clutch also. But i will just take it for a second opinion. Where could i get a 3.5 engine?? Is the swap real expensive?

Did you recently change your oil and switch brands?

I went from Redline to Mobil both synthetic and had this happen. Switched back to Redline and no more tick.

Well not sure what type of oil was used by the previous owner. I've had the car for about 4 months and i went to change the oil and i put in mobil 1 full synthetic 10 40 and about a week after the tick started to happen. Also i changed the oil and oil filter again on saturday and put in some stuff that is suppost to reduce the lifters noise (didn't work). That was 1 qt and the other 3 were valvoline maxlife.

Mine are quite loud in my 95... but they always have been, nothing out of the normal.

Don't ask questions like this in here. the answers are on the top of the page.

If you still have a question, go back a page or 2, you're bound to find something interesting and helpful.

I'll bet the previous owner used regular oil and the switch to synthetic caused it.

Once I switched to Mobil it took a couple thousand miles before the tick started and once I switched back to Redline it took a thousand or so to stop.

Your dino to syn could have knocked the crap loose/cleaned it causing the valve lift tick or whatever, so switching back to dino may or may not stop the tick.

Probably the switch caused it. But i'm gonna go another couple weeks and then i'll try a different oil setup (also give me time to save money). Any suggestions of oil to try next time?? I use to use this thing called Marvels Mystery oil when i had my 95 honda civic 210,000 miles on the odometer. Think i should try using that on the max.

And for MDeezy
I didn't see any motors in my cereal this morning, and since u had one in yours, how much is it going for???
