Hey guys, I hope you'll humor me asking this question in here, but I'd just as well get a quick answer from someone who knows what they're talking about rather than deal with a bunch of stupid answers in the general forums.
The situation:
Let's say I'm sitting at a stoplight in neutral, idling normally. If I give the car a little bit of gas (let's say 2000 rpms) and then let off completely, the rpms drop down to about 250-300ish for just a quick moment before returning to normal idle rpm. This happens with or without the A/C on.
The background: otherwise the car "feels" fine - no codes, no hesitation during acceleration, everything else is as it should be in terms of engine performance. Only "engine mods" are 17deg timing, Place Racing CAI, Cattman Y, and Frankencar catback. Alternator is 2 months old. This "problem" started about a month ago, and I hadn't done anything under the hood for at least a month before that.

Sounds like a partially clogged IACV to me ... just my opinion. A clog in the IACV would delay the time it took for the air to reach and therefore it would shutter. I say partially because it does eventually recover.
Just beat me to it, but I was gonna say look at the IACV or idle setting first. Maybe a sticking IACV valve... Or did you by any chance reset the ECU (as in leave the battery disconnected or unplugged it for a while) just before the problems started?
I've had a similar problem recently and hope to diagnose and fix it this weekend. If you figure it out first please let me know. Mine is a bit more complicated though since I recently switched fuel setup and pressure so I've got to get re-tuned with the EU a bit too.

You can't clean the 00 IACV's, they will die(search). Unless you can clean it without using TB cleaner, I think it will die. Others have failed from what I have read in the 5th gen forum.
hey josh, we seem to be having similar problems lately, because that's EXACTLY what's going on with my car. The thing is, I don't have IACV due to the drive by wire in the 3.5 so I don't know what's going on with it. I was thinking my TB might be a little dirty or I might have a vacuum leak, but I couldn't find a leak, and i don't want to clean my TB because I've only heard horrors from people doing it on the 3.5's. lol.
Anyways, with the 3.0 you should be able to just bump the idle a little on the IACV and it'll be fine. I just wish it were that easy for my, cuz it's annoying

thanks guys. Yeah I figured the first thing i'd do is clean the TB since that hasn't been done in well over a year...then check the IACV. IIRC it was doing it before the PR intake install, but we'll see

IACV is part of the TB. You might kill it by spraying TB cleaner. What I would do is remove the TB and "hand" clean it. Spray cleaner on a rag and Qtip and clean it w/o spraying anything in the TB.

Isn't there a procedure for 2000 that you need to turn the ignition on two or three times for the IACV to relearn. Its in the FSM IIRC.

You can adjust the little throttle screw, and hand clean it. my 2k3 engine is fine.
