3.5 swap complete, idles too high, can't use 1st gear
Ok, so my car was supposed to be all ready today, I get in and turn it on, and its idling slighlty under 2000rpm... I figure I'll give it some time, maybe the ecu is still figuring things out, but when I come to drive, I put it in first gear and when I come to release the clutch the car keeps on jumping, then slowing down, then jumping, then slowing down, chirping the tires with each jump, repeatedly... compeltely undrivable. I put it in second gear and it was fine, rpms still too high, had to drive with foot on teh brake pedal but the jumping was gone... so I took it back to the shop. I'm guessing they either need to adjust the throttle cable so its not idling too high.. and I'm worried the new clutch wasn't installed properly? Anyone have any ideas?
Ok, I called them up and they said all fixed, so I went to pick it up and they basically are no longer using the bracket. You can see below the bracket at the top of the picture was where the cable was coming through, now its just lying there, is that ok?

seeing how everyone's engine swap is going well and seeing the pictures makes me sad and jealous. I have been working on my car since march now and took the motor in and out 3 times, on my second motor, and still no motor in the car. :-(

Yeah, I'm not happy with it just lying there, would you happen to have a closer pic of the bracket and where it is mounted?

Allrighty, I'll see what we can come up with, its just that the regular mechanic is out, and the guy at the shop now only speaks spanish, I was hoping to show him a print out of the pic and use some sign language to get him to do the same
lol.
I'll post a pic when I'm done.
lol.I'll post a pic when I'm done.

tavarish sweet intake set-up. but a battery tie-down on that battery though.

Intake's the stock hacked airbox with clean panel filter.

Mad A, I have a suggestion. I used my stock 3.0 throttle/cruise bracket and used a tin snip to cut one corner of it off (it'll be obvious which corner if you hold it against the IM). The reason I cut it is because there was a clearance issue with regard to its mounting location on the 3.5 IM. There is a flat spot on the 3.5 IM very near to where the plenum begins (on the front side)...I believe there are two stamped circles roughly 1 inch apart in that very spot. I drilled a hole in the IM where the outermost circle is, threaded it and secured the 3.0 bracket with one of the OEM bracket bolts. Then, because there was no place to install the second bolt, I used JB Weld b/w the bracket edge and the IM as a precaution. Trust me...that sucka' will never move (unless I want it to) and the angle is perfect.

Not only have I read the stickies on this (wouldn't have gotten anywhere otherwise) but I printed out two copies, gave one to the mechanic, and went there every day for a month to go over what he did, and point out 'well, the printout says you should really do it like this. Look, if you switch out the connectors you can get that to fit. Look, it says you need to take this off to get the coils to fit. etc.'
csb, thanks for the suggestion. I'm probably going to wait till the mechanic who worked on it comes back from vacation, and have him mount the bracket on the engine/throttle body.. as well as check out some funky sounds I'm hearing, lol.
AllBlackMax, thanks bro, it took a month but it was definately worth it! I worked with a shop near 35 and Hebron.. pm me if you'd like more details. You might have read about me complaining about them somewhat (like sya, for mounting the bracket to the firewall, lol), but I should say that this was their first time doing something like this, and the managed to hook everything up, no codes or check engine light, asked them to hook up the egr (I used an '04 engine) etc. so in the end I'm happy, and I managed to learn quite a bit about engines during my daily visits to follow up on their work
