Another completed 00VI with 0 problems

Well, yet another example of how even a moderately skilled person can pull off a 00VI swap alone with no problems. I can say for sure that I would have encountered problems a many had I not spent considerable hours researching maxima.org and taking the advice of many successful swappers. My personal opinion is that the swap is not as difficult as some described, but there is also much more involved than many described. If anyone is interested, here is what I did:

Port matched, honed, and re-drilled the 4th gen. LIM
Fabricated my own IACV plate
Used the 5th gen. TB with vacuum assist device
Used the 5th gen. rear valve cover and coils
Reduced my PR CAI to a short ram style HAI until I can make a mid-pipe with the correct length

Here is variation of the IACV remote location (thanks to Stephen Max for the idea)

http://www.cardomain.com/member_page...32_21_full.jpg

I was doubtful of the claimed gains, but I can say that it is positively a good mod for the money. Power curve is drastically different with even power from idle to 6500 rpm. For those out there who are reluctant to do this mod because of the problems, I had zero problems.

Way-2-go.
Like I've suggested to many, start by assuming that you don't know as much as you think you do, and carefully tag and make notes about every single wire, hose, vacuum line, fuel line, connector, etc. you remove so that you can make sure that everything gets reconnected. I strongly suspect that the vast majority of post-installation problems guys have experienced have been because of things that went overlooked.

Nice work. The .org really does have all you need to pull it off, just needs some organization. As it is it takes many hours of searching/reading/prep to get up to speed, at least for me it did. But once i started everything went smooth for me also. As for gains i think you will find it a great supporting mod for any additional breathing/tuning mods in the future. I personally can't wait till i have the dough raised for an EU, should be fun learning to install and tune.

Hence why I began working on a compilation on my site

Took you long enough to post this up, Todd What was it, over a week ago you got this done? Tsk tsk...

All my parts are here, just waiting for my buddy to finish my plates and then mine can go on

Yeah, I waited a week to see if Murphy's law was going to take its toll and something go wrong. The max is running like a champ now. Need to get to the dyno and to the track to record some numbers.

As most who have done this mod know, a comprehensive write up is a daunting task. There is so much to be considered, and so many ways to do the mod. I'll work on it, but as most, I have a full-time job and other responsibilities that leave little time for hobbies.

Do you have a part number on the VIAS electrical Female connector that I need to buy ?? I have my RPM swtich lines going to the manifold, I just need the connector to "plug it in" ??

How did you mount the IACV ?

Nice job.

I was gaging on doing 00vi to my 3.5L setup, but it was the problems lots of people had that threw me off the project. Also, I am very conservative about its cost right now. I can now barely come up with 400 bucks since school started again.

But I would love to see a good write up so I won't trip when I get to do mine.

As far as the plug for the VIAS, I just used some crimp on plugs you get at Radio Shack or similar that will slide onto the pins. I mounted the IACV using a custom made bracket that fastens to the IACV and then to the bolt on the VIAS that is commonly used for the PCV hose guide bracket. Pretty easy really. Just takes a little time to cut, bend, and drill the aluminum bar stock to fit.

My project cost me a little more than I had hoped, but it was still under $450 with everything. Some of the parts were from a donor motor with less than 23k miles, and some were new from DaveB at Southpoint Nissan. Also, I opted for the MSD Digital window switch instead of the BakerElectronics or Summit, which cost me more. I could have done it for much less, but would not have been happy with the install. Granted, I had access to some nice equipment and already had most of the metal stock, but anyone could pull it off for less than $500 even including buying the plates through Stephen Max.

how big is the outlet for the IACV valve? I have a 3/8" hose, and whenever I try to adjust the IACV with the Brown connector off the TPS, the Idle doesnt move at all, I even took out the black screw and tapped my finger on the opening, and there was barely any suction. Does that mean that the 3/8's hose/ opening is too small? I was thinking of adding another 3/8' hole for a hose along with the current one. Do you think that should do the job?

No, mine isn't drilled yet. It's going to be on the side of the thick area the TB bolts on to, facing the firewall.

Your going to need a hose bigger than 3/8". 1/2" might work but I don't think anyone has posted yet with that setup. I would go with something between 1/2" and 3/4".

I'm going with 1/2" because it's the biggest practical to fit where I want to put it. I will definitely let everyone know my results once it's working.

Late this month, maybe early next month I have everything I need to do it, just waiting on my adapter plates to be done (a buddy is doing them for free in his spare time) and I need to have the time to do it (hard to come by with my work schedule + school).

Both of my fittings are high flow elbow fittings that are 3/8" npt to 1/2" hose. I have no idle problems and it seem to get plenty of air. You have to be very careful drilling the intake for anything larger than 3/8" npt, you barely have the room to drill and tap for that size, let alone anything larger.

I had to search high and low to find a 1/2" fitting that would fit. I did manage to find one that leaves enough wall on each side, though.

Tatanko your website is great for helping me. Finally found a place that listed all the parts needed. I just need to start understanding the full process of what to do haha. Congrats todd on the setup!

Well Todd will have his write-up finished soon enough. That + my website should be enough for anyone to do the swap. Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions

The write-up is in a step by step format, so if you can read, and are mechanically inclined, you can do the swap. Plus, I have part numbers for OEM parts, bolt sizes, etc. so it should help significantly with being prepared before you remove anything on the car.

O yeah I could follow directions without problems. I'm mechanically inclined enough to do the work as long as I have all the details. This kinda swap, I dont have friends and family that know any of it. So I need to know everything before I start. It seems like there as a lot of modying needed to certain parts that Im just not sure about.
