I installed a mechanical oil pressure guage and I've got a problem.
I used a nylon line just like the one that autometer supplies.
I purchased the nismo oil tee from courtesy for an insane price. (pissed me off, but oh well)
Replaced my oil pressure sender unit.

The nylon line off the tee has a compression fitting and when you tighten that up, the compression ring twists in the housing and ends up peircing the line. Once that happens, the line leaks oil all over the place.
Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this?
I'm sure I'm gonna need a braided line, but where to get one from?

use an electircal gauge man..

but is the nylon line seated properly in the compression seat? thats the first thing i would double check..

 

I'm sure that the nylon hose is seated in the tee properly. I've tried it 5 times now. If you use an electrical guage, you still need to tee it off the block right?

 

when i did mine i didnt "t" off anything.. used and adapter on the gauge for the threads.. bolted it to the block, and did away with the stock sending unit.

 

same thing i did,but throw away the nylon and get copper all the way.nylon kinks up way to easily.

edit: you dont have to cover all the threads. jus tighten till its really snug

 

a copper line? interesting, where would I get that? My local parts store dosn't stock a copper line. Any suggestions? I was super careful with the nylon line and I don't have any kinks in it.

What does your guage read at idle? When mine starts up, it reads higher than 80psi. When it's been running for a few minutes, it drops to less than 20psi. THat's pretty normal right?
I'm pretty sure it's got to do with the viscosity of the oil when it's cold, but I'm not sure and I've never had an oil pressure guage before (on any vehcile).

Most places that sell gauges sell the copper tubing it. Its the same size as the plastic stuff. A cold start goes up near 80-90psi, a warm idle is around or above 10 psi, and a warm WOT run can climb near 100 psi easy. I was at 40 psi on the highway.

 

dont tighten all the way. just tighten until it starts getting tight, should just be a little more pressure than threading freely.

 

thanks guys... I'm gonna try and get my hands on some of the copper... is it flexible or more like a hard-line like the hard brake line?

its flexible but to be carefull as not to bend it more than nessary in one area.your gonna need to kits if your trying to put it in the cabin.


mine is about 8psi at idle which is scary.but cold its 50 on start up.but then again but pump isnt spinning as fast as it should be

 

so, if I'm gonna need 2 kits, the obvious question, what do you use to connect the kits... where did you get your from?

the kits come with everything need to connect them.

 

I just thought I'd say thanks. I went to a local preformance place and they stocked the kit from autometer. 6' line and the connectors. I bought 2 kits. 29.98 each plus taxes. ouch. I checked with ebay after I got home and I could have had 2 kits shipped for that price. Oh well. I'm hoping to install it this weekend or next. Thanks diymaximakid for leading me in the right direction.

So, I went to install the autometer kit and the adapter that came with it is the wrong size.
arggggggggghhhhhhhhh.
What do I do about an adapter?
