EU question regarding resistors
After searching through all the new & old EU threads I was wondering if the resistors on the ignition wires was a requirement or if that was only if the CEL was tripped. Was this part of the problem with the coils burning up? Did the firmware update fix that or was that some isolated cases? It looked like only the 95 & 96 were having this CEL issue. I got the EU today and was going to make a "plug & play" harness but didn't know if having them wired in, whether they are needed or not, will have ill effects. Also do they need to be grounded seperately or can they share the ECU ground?
Hey let me know how your install goes, i'll be getting eu in a month or so and i'll probably need instructions, and you're semi local...maybe i can come down there to get some help with it whenever you're not busy?
hey dude dandymax is sitting right here, (he's passing through New Zealand at the moment). He says the resistors are only required if it trips a cel, and has nothing to do with the coil burning.
The EU doesnt burn coils if they are set up properly.
The check engine light issue could be across any year car, but he recommends waiting until its installed to see if you get the check engine light or not. However, the car will run fine even if the light is on.
dan spent the day installing and doing a rough tune on my Maxima, and I finally felt the top end for the first time! Car runs like a bat out of hail on steroids !
Dan expects to have a complete install/write-up around mid March.
cheers dude

So the resistors are only to keep the CEL from tripping and nothing more? Not a problem then, my CEL's been intermitten since the VI swap anyways. Once I get the other end of the ECU harness I'll follow the writeup on vqpower.
Thanks guys!
Glad the chariot is back in prime running shape... that VI is good stuff eh? Can't wait to see the track times

The resistors make teh ecu thing it is fireing the coils, w/o the resistor the ecu doesnt know if it is fireing the coils( in reality the EU is fireing the coils) some ecu's throw codes, although I don't know anyone who is not throwing the code w/o resistors.

is this what dandy has confirmed? if this is so than you shall see alot faster times and over 100 mph traps
Also off topic... how would the resistors affect the EU working in conjuction with J&S. Last time I spoke with John, he mention having to make a special module/adapter. Currently, the J&S is giving me a CEL without the resistors so I was wondering if having the resistors in the harness for the EU and J&S would solve the CEL problem.
hey kris look at post #20 in this thread: http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=508697
kris the results were insane ! 13.5 would be modest, dan said he would eat his shorts if the chariot couldnt run 13.5 in its sleep. prolly looking at a best of 13.3 somewhere in that area. as for me, im not sure whos car im driving? top end is amazing, time to thrash the all motor class filled with low 14 high 13 second type r hondas.
but we will see, have to get it to the track first.
my apologies for the hijack j
