A few questions before i start my install...
First off i want to say that i have done a lot of research and have, for the most part, clarified a lot of the things i was unclear on. Now lets get to what i am doing and my questions:
I am installing hotshot headers, test pipe, cattman catback, and an AFC.
Here is the deal - I live in upstate NY and am worried that there are not a lot of tuner type places that can tune for me. I have found one from another org member that said he could tune.
I have come to the conclusion that the VAFC-II is better for bolt on's i/h/e and the like than the SAFC-II but am worried that they will not be able to tune with it.....
For those with experience at the dyno and tuning, when i bring my car there should i have any settings or anything set on the VAFC?
(I was planning on just doing all the wiring and installing the unit.)
When i dyno, how are they going to install the wideband o2...do they just replace one of the o2 sensors on the header for the tuning?
What questions should i ask the people at the dyno before i go to make sure they are knowledgeable enough to tune a maxima with the VAFC?
Thanks, i look forward the hours of work ahead of me and tuning!

Check on nycmaximas.org to see who can do tuning for you.
How did you come to the conclusion that the VAFC2 is better than the SAFC2? As far as I know the only difference is the V has the extra output for VTEC (or VIs) but its useless to you because your ECU opens/ closes your VI.
Dont go to the dyno with corrections made already. You dont have a wideband and thus you have no clue where your a/f ratio is.
Most dynos use a sniffer-type wideband. They stick it right up the tailpipe.
No idea what to ask them. I do the tuning myself.
Hope that helps somewhat

I dont know why people make a big deal about the # of points.
To me, the only time 24 correction point are needed is if you have an EXTREMLY irratic a/f that is all over the place and changing frequently.
I have an SAFC1 with only 8pts and notice my a/f --> http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=511885. Its nice and flat.
Do people think that the SAFC1 doesnt make corrections in between the points? Is that why they think more points is better? The SAFC interpulated the correction in between its points. I dont see a need at all to have more than 8pts for tuning. At least not with a stable a/f that 99% of maximas tend to have

When you go to the dyno shop ask them if they have a wideband 02 so that they could put it in the test pipe. This will allow you to look at the A/F curve. But if they only have a tail sniffer than you should be looking at the graph. As you lean out at various rpms you will see that the torque will increase. As soon as you see the torque drop than you add more fuel. That is your optimum torque. Just be careful with the tail sniffer b/c its known to show A/F readings fairly lean.

okay, i talked to the guy that i think i am going to go to and he said if i have a cat then he has to use the wideband but i dont then he can use the tail sniffer, from experience would i get a better tune with the wideband and can he just put it in the headers bung while he tunes then just put the o2 back in?
-or does the wideband need to be like in a test pipe?

if you put the wb in the headers that means your getting readings from only one bank. Not good. You need readings from both banks therefore it has to be at the collector or the test pipe.

Should be good for up to 30+ fwhp IMO. It has been done w/ the mods you mentioned coupled w/ a decent tune and some good fuel. But let's not get into that guessing game. get a dyno and see what good comes of it.
