stand alone ecu

The only reason I could see for having a stand alone would be if you swapped the 3.5 engine in and wanted to use VTC. However, there are more cost effective ways of getting the VTC to work.

Jime (12.4 3.5swap, auto), Neal (11.7 turbo), Tilleys (11.5? 3.5swap turbo), Mardigras (11.4 [dont remember is this was with his hybrid motor or still with the 3.0] turbo). The currently fastest maximas, to the best of my knowledge, all are rocking the stock ECU with all the tuning being done by piggybacks, either EU or E-Blue, apexi units, etc...
The EU is the best of the bunch. Now being able to control rev limit, fuel trims, ignition timing, dual-stage launch control, auto a/f tuning, multiple maps, among others, for the PRICE DIFFERENCE there isnt much at all to gain from a standalone that would be worth the price for our applications.

I just bought a used E-manage Ultimate from a 600 HP Z guy on My350z.com. It includes the unit itself, the 89$ 3-main harnesses, the original Greddy CD, manual, original box and even the warranty paper. Paid 470$ shipped with 3-5 day shipping from Texas to Canada.
I asked him if he was switching to the UTEC but hes going with the HKS V-Pro system. But he also has 40,000$ in mods (built TT engine and the whole nine yards). The most hardcore maxima on this board had about half that in mods. So I really dont see why you wouldnt just drop 500 on an E-U and call it a day.
Hey, we do our stuff on a budget and then we can brag about the bargain. Dont shell out a few Gs just for a standalone.
