first of all
second of all let me explain. I held the key to start it and i got that ticking which i think was the fuel pump pressurizing the system? Then when it was done i tried starting multiple times and it would sound like it was going to start but it just didnt the starter would give a VERY short cranking noise but no continuation. It doesnt sound like it even turned.

As far as connections, there is one spot on the firewall near the transmission where a ground was connected on like a foot long wire and i dont have that plugged in because i dont remember where it connected to. ALSO there is a green harness connector that is loose coming off of the same area as the knock sensor connection.

i tried putting in my friends battery and the car was acting really weird, everything was flickering on and off. I put my battery back in and it acted normal, all electronics turned on. I tried to start it a couple more times and then it started acting weird again with the flickering.

please help...this is real discouraging.

Fix that ground and see what happens.
So one end goes to the tranny and the other end goes?

its screwed straight into the firewall and the other end is just a loose connector. i dont know where it went...i cant find a spot for it to connect.

I took the starter out a little bit and put it back in just to make sure it wasnt a jammed gear.
here's a picture of the connector that isnt connected.

it wants to start...it really does.

that plug goes to a sensor located on the VQ30 coolant log, it reads either coolant temp or vac cant recall at the moment

IIRC, the only green plug on THT's car and my car was for the EGR solenoid valve.

If this is the connector that is connected to the knock sensor, I believe you dont need it.... Well what I actually did was remove the 3.5 knock sensor and install the 3.0 knock sensor, just in case the 3.5 knock sensor needed that connector to function.

If you getting a clicking noise when you flick the ignition switch, your electircal is not grounded right. Check the alternator and its grounds, the starter's ground.

The starter is grounded to the block via the engine/tranny mating surfaces. The car should start even with no alternator hooked up.

Actually, my car had a similar problem... On the day we got it going, we drove aroud the block, came back, turned it off, and then when we tried to start it again, it just made a clicking noise.... and the alternator's connection was loose. We secured it, and the thing started up.

i re did my negative cable grounds and no change. I found out the alternator wasnt connected and connected the power and then attached the ground-bracket as well. No change to the starting situation.

there is just rapid clicking in the engine bay...it no longer sounds like the starter is trying to start or starting at all like it was before. I am extremely eager to figure out what the problem is so i can return the starter since it doesnt seem to be the problem.

i'm getting stressed.

its weird yall mention that because hte alternator WAS DISCONNECTED. but now it is and there is no difference in the situation. Where does the alternator grounding bracket attach to? i just screwed it into one of the screws on the alternator bracket. next to the timing case..

guys listen to this. Remember that loose ground wire i was talking about? Well on the new starter i bought there was one of those little single connectors on it that that wire could connect right to. Welll i connected it to it just playing around and when i try to start now i get NO CLICKING. The gauge lights just dim and thats it. Does this mean my starter needs to be grounded better?

i recharged it again, and tried to start and the starter spun!!! it sounds really whiney though....i let off and tried cranking again and it sounded like the starter spun again. When i tried for the 3rd time its like hte battery lost juice because everyting got real dim and weak and solenoids were buzzing again.

im recharging the battery again...but it cant hold a charge apparently...i hope the car starts..

i took apart the fpr to make sure the gasket was on there right, and it looked to be, i put it back together and installed it and its still reading zero on the gauge. I know its important to have the proper fuel pressure but i can drive the car, i am just wondering how bad it is to drive with the fuel pressure so low?

also, my brake booster seems to act a little funny or something...my brakes will lose pressure and then gain it back after revving. somethin must be leakin?
