It all depends on how much control that you want. If all you care about is WOT, then a window switch for each would do.
If you want to add load as well as rpm as your controlling parameters, then you will need to go to a map-based controller (an EU for example)

UPDATE:
Alright here's the long awaited update, and I'm afraid it's not what ya'll want to hear.
I made the test fit this morning, and unfortunately everything seems to be spaced out about 4mm or so. The distance between the bolt holes and studs on the two heads is larger on the new VQ than it is on ours, and so is the distance between the front and rear injectors. Also (which wouldn't have mattered as much if the IM would have fit the heads) the altima LIM is a good 1/2" taller than ours. Not sure if that would affect hood clearance (again, assuming it fit the heads). So sadly, I'm not going forward with this project....I was fully ready to order the upper IM today from Dave B. but I guess that can't happen
At least now we know it won't work..

Good effort.. do you have any pics of the LIM lined up on the heads so we can better see where the differences are? Distance is larger in which direction? Forgetting about the fasteners for a second, how do the ports line up?

I believe the distance between the two heads is actually a bit larger. Reason I say this is because both the distances between the injectors from head to head and the bolt holes and studs between the heads is a good bit larger than ours. Let me get a picture of what I"m talking about
I could not physically match it up to the heads because the studs wouldn't allow it to slip down at all, but I did compare the port size on the two LIM's and they were identical.

2009 Maxima Manifold
I went and drove a 2009 Maxima the other day and was very pleased. When I looked under the hood I noticed the plastic intake manifold. I called the parts department today at my local stealership and got a price quote for one. Apparently he can get them for only $350! The only problems that could arise are fitment problems on the 2004 LIM. Apparently the part numbers are different which I am guessing is due to the material it is made out of. He also said that it uses an O ring gasket instead of the crush the other UIMs use. Anyone know if this will fit or that has seen one? I am going to go to the dealership in the next few days to take a look at what is on their computers. I am hoping I can just use my 2004 LIM but if not, I am willing to give this a go. Hopefully this could make some nice gains on my 4th gen!
Thanks,
Zack

09 Max IM's are the same as the L32 Altima IM. Dual PV's, and the new Maxima has the same heads as the new Altima, that means they're HR heads, which means the LIM will not bolt up to our DE heads. LA02Max has a thread on this.
http://forums.maxima.org/all-motor/3...tml?highlight=
The pistons are different on the A35 since it has a higher CR vs the L32, but in the case of this thread, it wouldn't matter, as long as the heads & LIM are the same, LA's thread would suffice as far as relevant information goes.
If you have a 4th gen w/ a VQ30DE, then you might have a few more issues to deal with vs LA02Max such as EGR.

Remember that it is not an open/closed thing, it's more like a 2 step process which I'm guessing is very similar to the A33B VIAS system.
Basically, it would take more than an RPM switch to make it work properly. I imagine a basic set-up w/ an RPM switch with some dyno time would be possible.

Either way, it is a superior design to the A33B. But the heads & LIM need to be figured out first, IMO.

OT: After doing some "research" into individual part numbers like valves, buckets, and springs, all of those part #'s are unique to the HR. How the heads still have the same part #, I haven't the slightest of clues.

Also, L32 heads might not necessarily solve this issue. If the L32 block has a taller deck height, L32 heads on a DE block might still be too close together for the LIM to fit. The injector distance thing could be easily fixed by using an L32 fuel rail, methinks.

i wish there was a nissan tech on our forum that manufactured all the vq engines and could tell us what work with what instead of guessing, and wasting time and money
...better keep dreaming

Then it be too easy, and everyone's Maxima would be the pinnacle of NA. I think there are many many members on here that know more about Maximas than 99.999% of the so called 'Nissan Techs' out there.
