emanage tune / install

Drove by the only shop Ive found so far. They had numerous types of cars outside. I talked to a minion at the front counter who had to always ask th guy in the office. They want $325 to install and emanage in my 07 maxima and then $600hr to dyno tune. For that money spent I think Ill wait awhile and do some other mods like, cattman y pipe, phenolic spacers, underdrive pulley. Seems like Ill gain more for the money with those mos and then do the tune. So

$325 install emanage
$450 emanage unit
$600 hr tune

Isnt that alot and maybe not pick up much or just a piece of mind knowing were you stand. Be cheaper to intall WB and go from there and then atlesat have it. Opinions on next step?

It sounds like the EU would be your first mod. Is this correct? If so, you're wasting your time and $$. Do all the worthwhile bolts-ons you can first. Skip the underdrive pulley.

$600/hr to tune??
Find a new shop.

BTW, this isn't really AM material.

No my mods so far are custom y pipe back exhaust and fujita CAI. I have other mods but nothing in the way of adding or changing the A/F. I was I guess making a point that a new y pipe,IM, phenloic spacers would be more beneficial instead of the EU at this point. Once I have the other stuff installed then do the install and tune. Will look around for other shops for prices and install.

Agreed. Once you have all the bolt-ons that you want, then go for the EU. This way, you'll only have to pay somebody once to tune your car.

What exactly are your goals? Why EU vs installing an AFC?? Just curious.

I just want some moderate performance without doing heads, cams or major engine work. I just do it as a hobby for fun and try and learn some things until I get bored and go on to the next car. I figured the EU was the best way to go but if I can get the AFCII which is cheaper and still be able to do what I need to I will go that way. I dont want to go overboard but want something that has multifinction. In other words I want something in the middle. Not the cheapest but cant afford the best. I plan on doing the y pipe next along with spacers but dont see the benefit for the price to buy the kinetix.I will then move on to some suspension mods. I plan on doing brakes in a couple of weeks hopefully.

That's not the point. We're talking apples and oranges here. Maybe he can get away with a much simpler tuning device..... install it himself, possibly tune it himself, save a bunch of money etc etc.

the price for install seems fair, esp if u have to wire in the resistors for the coils. make sure whoever does it make u a bypass harness, its a lifesaver cause the eu has caused me a lot of problems, and its really nice to be able to pop it out and run normal, but im not tuned yet, which is most if not all fof my problem.

and where are u gettign an eu for 500? for that price i doubt ur getting the harness which is usually liek 80-100

tuning. i ahve no idea im trying to find that out myself. but 600 sounds high.

The Utec connector is the same as the 6th gen, check and see if the wireing is the same and it will be plug and play.

IMO, there's nothing really in the middle. An AFC is affordable, easy to install, and fairly straight forward to tune with.

An EU is fairly expensive, time consuming to install, and requires quit a bit a knowledge/time to tune with (let alone a laptop)

And keep in mind you should ideally have a wideband O2 with some means of datalogging, unless you plan on having a tuner shop tune it every time.

Kind of hard to say. You really haven’t said what you want to do except get into tuning and get some moderate performance. Start with this thread,

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread.php?t=446133

and determine which feature/capabilities you have to have. Go to each manufacturer's website and read up about the individual products. Then determine how much $$ you have to blow, keeping in mind installation and tuning if you are unable to do so yourself. Then the choice should be clear. With the limited information I’ve gathered from your posts, an AFC will work for you just fine. However, like Kevlo said, look into the wiring of the Utec. If it’s plug an play, you may want to consider it if you have the additional funds and time to learn it. This will give you the multifunction that you are seeking (same goes for the EU) Hope my perspective helps you some.

Another option to save on the install costs is to find an EU with a Z33 patch harness already wired to it. There were/are plenty of these FS on my350z.com. If you can find one it is plug n play.

IMO it's not that clear cut. There are features the EU has the UTEC doesn't, and visa versa. Plus the cost differences.

The OP should do his research on the various units, familiarize himself with each one's features and capabilities, and then decide what will suit his mods/goals/experience/budget/capabilities etc the best.
