Where are you located? Best bet would be to check with a local junkyard to find a low mileage 3.5. Depending on where you go, they may also have 1 year warranty. Some may ship as well for reasonable price.

The dealership.

Try the junkyard or carparts.com Carparts being your best bet, just try not to get ripped off.

I looked on car-part and found one in a salvage yard near me that had a broken timing cover. I used that as a negotiating factor in the price, since I was going to replace it with a 3.0 cover anyhow.

They didn't need to know that though.

In fact, depending on what level your swap is going to be, a damaged oil pan, timing cover or throttle body could be a good thing. These parts are usually replaced with 3.0 components.

I found a similar motor near me with a cracked timing case and it was a really good negotiating point. Just make sure you inspect the motor before buying to ensure you don't have greater problems. Good luck!

how does the timing a case crack (it seems to happen a lot?).

I've parted out a few wrecks, and in my experience the impact of the crash tends to disrupt many things in the engine compartment. Lots of stuff bolted to the front of the engine to transfer the impact force to the large aluminum cover. Most of the crashes are front enders also.

I wouldn't buy a motor without hearing it run first. But if yo have to order one online go with someone reputable(sp?)

In a perfect world that would be ideal.

But in today's time it takes nothing at all to render a car inoperable, unable to start or run. Internal engine parts aren't much different, but the systems that support them certainly are.

You do your research and roll the dice.

junkyards don't leave the motor in the car so you can hear it run. if it's at a junkyard it's because the car is dead, and they take all the parts that are still usable off of the vehicle. it'd be an exceedingly rare case that you'd find a motor in a car that was still operable.

Here's a really nice one with low miles for sale at a great price including all the special parts you need for the swap. The guy selling it may even take a little less (hint hint)

What gives, you never responded to my pm, I'd like to buy that entire 6mt drivetrain w/wiring & ecu, I'll pull everything myself.
