Head Swaps? VQ35VHR?
Head Swaps? VQ35VHR?
Lol this may be a dumb idea and I don't plan on attempting it until the prices of VHR's comes down, but since the 07 Altima is basically a regular 3.5 block with HR heads, would it be feasible to say that 3.7 VHR heads could be put on a 3.5 block? Would make for some nasty Maximas if they had VHR's variable lift on them...just a thought, any counter points?

Yes, the HR (minus just the head as found in the Altima) does have CVTC on both cams (some hardware involved, cams, solenoids/phasers/), so, you would need a way (V-manage) to control them. But keep in mind, this is more than jut the head. Altimas have th HR heads, but don't have the CVTC capability of the HR engine as a whole such as found in the Z.
The Altima heads don't have CVTC on both cams, but it does seem as if they have a wider range of CVTC.
Here's a good thread:

^^ He's referring to the VHR w/ VVEL. (BTW, the V-Manage isn't compatible with Nissan exhaust VTC.
)
To the OP, I would imagine the heads could bolt up to the FWD 3.5 block, since the HR heads can. That's the easy part. The real question is do you think you're up to swapping in the G37 ECU? It is NOTHING like swapping in a FWD VQ35 ECU (which is pretty simple to me). I took a look through the G37's EC section, and umm...

I guess the next step is determining the minimum number of inputs/connections that the G37 ECU requires to run properly.

Either or, the HR heads with both VTC's OR the VHR heads. Either one would be a cool swap if someone could wire up the appropriate ECU's or control them via EMS (which btw Nismology, I was told that the AEM EMS for the 350Z can control VTC's).
Out of curiosity where could I find a G37 FSM online? I'd like to see what's involved in the electronics of it, even though the prices on HR and VHR engines is still ridiculously high.

Exhaust VTC as well? The MoTeC M600 can control intake VTC (among a few other piggybacks including V-Manage). That wasn't really the concern.

Ahhh, probably not the exhaust VTC's as well, but I will ask out of curiosity.
Thanks for the FSM!
