There'll be other things that need to come off... axles, starter, disconnect all the rad hose, coolant lines to the heater etc, PS and alternator can be taken off once the engine's out unless you're really bored lol... and yeah why not drain all the fluids. You know about the 2 water plugs on each side of the block (plus the rad)?




If you don't already have one, a digital multimeter. You can probably find a basic one that will measure various voltages, resistances, currents, check circuit connectivity etc and not be too expensive. I forget what kind of stores you got down there but places like Autozone, Canadian Tire, maybe Home Depot etc would have them. Here's an example of what I'm talking about... Basic multimeter for $30.





I'm currently swapping my vq30de for a vq30de-k. My question is on the coolant log (upper radiator hose connects to) there is an extra port for coolant, the vq30de doesn't have this port, what should I do with it?

Reroute the hose so that the coolants flows into another coolant line.

well the stock flywheel is 20 lbs, just had mine resurfaced.


while I have never been able to test the difference, nor have I driven an A32 with a lightened flywheel. Its generally believed that those who drag race are better off with a stock flywheel. Acting as a power storage device to help the launch, and keep the revs up.

Jwt is supposed to be 5 lbs lighter? i could be tempted by that but dont know if 5 lbs is enough to have a negative effect at the drag strip. would love to know first hand.

should be ordering clutch soon, then will get the thread going again, just held up on driveline items

Depends how light you go Chris. I have the Unorthodox, which assembled weighs in at 12 lbs. I've still pulled 1.7x sixty foots with it.

The DE-K also has better cooling passages. This is a great thread! Now I know if my DE-K ever poops on me, I won't have to pay someone to do it again.

Wait a second, I'm confused as all hell now. I just finished doing a de-k w/usim swap, and I swore I had all the coolant passages worked out, I thought there was also 2 on the de-k log (heater core ones aside), I hooked them up to the 4th gen TB so that the FICD would still function. Are you sure the de-k has 1? Where do the 4th gen tb coolant hoses come from? Crap, I'm just bugging, I'll double check in the morning.

^^No can do, but my cell is in my sig and you're more than welcome to call it anytime. I get anywhere from 8-15 pm's a day asking "oh, how much to do this, or hey I want to buy this but....", I've found people only call when they are serious, saves me lots of time. Drove the car around the block earlier, runs great, had to use some front coils w/plug wires from a mustang for the rear though, none of them were in the car. Still have to do brakes, alignment, detail, core support, find & fix the nasty exhaust leak, and she's good to go

Anyways, to that guy wondering about the 2 vs 1, it's not like that at all, no extra on the de-k, there is just one on the log & than another on one of the metal hard lines for the heater core hose, run them togethor for ease of blocking, in my situation I ran them to the 4th gen TB to retain the FICD.

I swear to god, I might just be bugging, but I think the DE-K intake cams w/usim = low rpm tourqe monster Runs nice, real nice.

No surprise there. Less duration on the intake cam will do that for ya. That's why Nissan did it in the first place.

Yes, this and the timing changes caused by using 5th gen injectors w/afc on 4th gen ecu make for some very impressive #'s out of the venerable '00vi swap.

there has to be a way of having an auto 5th gen go faster than 132mph, i've search the forums and is now becoming hopeless

finally, got my clutch kit in the mail two days ago. Went with the ACT NM1-HDSS, it sat at my folks house for a month maybe two. Just glad its here. Just need to set up a time with a friend of mine and will start putting the old chariot back together.

ok im in the middle of this swap and have a problem. Do the front and rear mounts don't match up. The brackets i mean. I thought this was a complete direct swap? Do i need 5th gen F&R brackets for the mounts?

Nah don't run those rear engine block to manifold brackets you don't need them. It's an easy way to save a pound or so off.

It's funny when Krismax and me did the first DEK swap we spent maybe 3 hours trying to make those DE brackets work with the DEK upper manifold. He even had brand new DEK brackets and we tried to get those to fit. Then we realized they are not needed. Gotta love doing pioneer work.

I think he's talking about the motor mount brackets. In any case, he got his issue fixed per the thread in the 4th gen forum.

is this where i left off ? gee, its been a year .. gas went up to almost 9 dollars a gallon, drag strips closed, i was gutted. blue skies again. i think its time to crank up the dummies thread once again ! lol ! will have a look around.. to see if there was another thread.

de-k is in

just need to bolt up exhaust, then talk to dandy about how to re do the coolant hoses ..

and I thought 4bucks was bad, at 9buck I would have bought a mountain bike and rode to work

nice to see the motor is in, did the tracks close due to gas and money or just for the season

the track closed down permantly for a year, but has reopened. back when gasoline was affordable it still cost around 250 dollars to get there and race. so i was pretty gutted about that.

i miss the good ole days back home... a bit of gas and 10 dollars to race all night long.

If you get Emanage-Ultimate you should be able to take care of that, not that I've did it myself but I believe it's the only way to push the rev limiter further on a DEK but I might be full of potatoe... Lol

question about the rear injectors. Using 5th gen components. The rear injector power wires coming out of the connector on the side, one that's got about 3" of wire from the main harness then the connector, the power wires are blue/white stripe, red/black stripe, and red/yellow stripe. I think I cut the whole piece off with the rear 4th gen connectors and since it's been so long since I touched the car I just wanna make sure. Then there is the thick solid red wire that is the shared ground, correct? And then there are 4 other wires coming off that connector, yellow, white black, black/silver that go to the back/bottom of the engine. My FSM seems to have ran off somewhere..

Yes, your injectors are correct. No idea about the other wires you found? Any pictures of where the wires are coming from?

Injector 1 - Red/Black
Injector 3 - Red/Yellow
Injector 5 - Blue/White

They seem to be routed to where the fuel pressure sending unit is. I'm not worried about them as I didn't touch them. Just mentioned them as reference. Thanks...
