A few small VAFC questions

first of all i'd like to say...these harnesses are cheap and fragile. The pins dont seem to stay in very well etc. I started my car up after taking out and putting back the dash to install an airbag and I guess one of the wires werent making a connection on the vafc so the car was running REALLY REALLY BAD and making horrible noises which had me thinking something was stuck in the fans and they were spinning..god i hope nothing got damaged.

I inspected the harness and couldnt really see anything wrong so i disconnected and reconnected it. the car seemed to run okay after this. I want to make sure the MAF is giving normal readings though..but its a VAFC2 so I know the pressure reads like its a MAP sensor. Can anyone tell me the parameters i'm looking for and how to convert to MAF readings and not MAP?

thanks..

oh my second question would be- If I wanted to solder the tiny little vafc wires straight into the ECU wires (worse comes to worse) will it effect any kind of voltage or readings since the wires are so tiny and connecting to normal 22 gauge or 20 gauge wires? The previous owner says he bought it from another guy with the harness clipped off...why anyone would do that is beyond me.

Do you have the wires soldered into the ECU harness and the connector in the original vafc harness is giving you trouble?

Try putting some dielectric grease on it, maybe the contacts in it are worn.

yes everything is soldered fine its the harness thats causing the problem i'm sure of it. its the pins that just dont want to stay in, they arent making a great connection. Im almost considering getting a male and female harness from something else and just cutting and connecting everything accordingly with the new harness.

Did you try the grease at all? Also, part the wires in between on both side of the connector and zip-tie it together...?

does di-electic grease make a connection or something? i think its more a problem of the pins being loose than anything. the zip tie idea isnt bad I may check it out but like i said its kind of the individual pins.

another idea which I think is what I'll do when I get the time is to just solder the tiny wires into some thicker like 18 gauge wire and get some nice butt connectors and just get rid of the harness all together. at least this way I can still remove it when i need to and it wont be hard to diagnose if there is something not making a connection as well. thank god my car hasnt been tuned yet or i'd be screwed with the rpm wire disconnecting.
