EGT probe location for n/a Vq30de?
I have a defi egt gauge (mechanical)& a safcII thats been sitting around.
I was going to use them for my project car but I bought a wideband & etc.. for it instead
Instead of selling these neglected mods I decided to hook them up to my daily driver last weekend.
The gauge & AFC passed a bench tested before install.
I hooked the egt up to my exhaust where the cat is supposed to be & there was no reading at all.lol
Where would you recomend to place the exhaust temp probe?
How far away from the head can the probe be?
What cylinder should I tap into?
Thankyou
Fyi
The car made 182 whp 180wtq untuned. Im looking for 200whp tuned

From what I've read a EGT probe is supposed to go close to the cylinder head so that it reads the temp of the combustion chamber. Putting it far down the line doesn't help much cause damage can occur and you won't know until it's too late.
On a FWD VQ the choice would be cylinder #5 a couple inches from the head installed in the header runner. As it is the last cylinder to get fuel from the rail. The regulator is right after this cylinder and any unused fuel gets returned to the tank. So if your tuning and running low on fuel this cylinder's EGTs would heat up first. Also I've noticed that cylinder #5 runs hot on it's own because of it's location in the back of the engine bay.
