IM w/EGR valve question

I just purchased a spare IM so that I could do the SSIM.

One thing that I noticed was the obvious difference between the IM w/EGR valve and the one w/o it. (I accidentally purchased one w/o one at first )

Now, I'm sure that some of you motor gurus will know what I am talking about without seeing pictures, but what are the hex nuts for under the IM lining the EGR valve opening? There is a single hole that goes into each runner from the hex nut...so is this some sort of adjustment or what purpose does it serve?

Is it also possible that the EGR valve tube can get clogged?

n00bish questions, but I'm just curious as to what those are for.

Will post pics later on tonight.

thanks,
dan

We've got an Altima motor up at the shop, I'll take a look at it tomorrow for you. Most likely they're just service ports.

Took a quick look at it today (damn MKIV Supras and Nismo Zs taking up most of my time), and they do appear to be some sort of service port, likely for cleaning.

Alright, so would you say that it is safe to take them out and clean out the area, or will there be some special adjustments needed?

I can't imagine any sort of 'special adjustments', really. Likely just a plug to give access to service the EGR rail, nothing more than that.
