Talking 00vi POWER!!

hey guys.

last night i finally finished up my 00vi swap! started right up and seemed to run well. hooked up the summit RPM switch and went for a drive...WOW...the power is pretty awesome.before i never ever hit rev limiter...now i'm accidentally hitting it in first and second gear...i've got to get extended rev limit!! it just wants to keep pulling!! i used all 4th gen stuff. if i had to do it again i would definately go buy the 5th gen rear valve cover for simplicity sake. but the swap itself really wasn't too bad. i enjoyed it and i'm very happy with the power increase and can't wait to hit the track tomorrow!

i had one question though, is it possible to have a vacuum leak but still idle perfect and run pretty strong?when i crack the throttle really fast i can't tell if the "swwooosh" noises i'm hearing are from the short ram intake or if its something else. it sounds like its coming from the rear area of the UIM somewhere....it may just be vacuum hoses....

anyway...i just wanted to know if its possible to drive perfect and idle perfect and still have a vacuum leak.

do you have a wideband to keep an eye on your a/f? that would tell you if you're running lean or not (being one of the signs of a vacuum leak).

glad you got it running!!! dyno and track times please :-D

dang...i figured i'd need a wideband...but i just can't afford $250 at the moment....but i definately don't want to run my nitrous until i can get a wideband or something.i need to make sure i don't have a vacuum leak...i'll try to keep my eye's open for a good deal.

yeah man i'm glad its running too. its pretty neat how $50 spent on an intake manifold can TOTALLY change the attitide of the car

definately an awesome mod!

Congrats man. We did I2vicious's swap last night too. We got it started on the second try. What did you do with your EGR?

thanks dude! thanks again for answering some of my questions and hooking me up with the adapter plates!

everything on the EGR looks the same...i made a plate for the EGR tube and bolted the plate to it then bent the whole assembly back so that the 00vi would set down nicely.

congrats on installing ya'lls 00vi....swaps really aren't too bad!

congrats man! welcome to the club
yeah i really have to say that all 5th gen setup is really easier Minus the tune if you decide to do it yourself. but obviously you are going to pay more for all 5th gen stuff.

Last time I checked a vac gauge or vac gauge with pump was the best tool when looking for vac leaks

key pharse here is get a vac gauge they cost anywhere from 20-50 bucks

and if you do not have enough money for that get a can of wd-40 or starter fluid and spray the uim around the gasket to see if you get a change in idle

To test for vacuum leaks, simply:

-Remove intake and put hand and/or duct tape over TB to seal it off.
-Remove the brake booster line from the metal tube end
-Blow as hard as you can into the tube.
-Listen for hissing sounds. Find out where they are. There is your leak.

Oh, and welcome to the 00VI club.

thanks guys for the info! when i first got it started up i sprayed almost the whole engine...haha...with carb cleaner to see if the idle changed....nothing changed at all. last night i finally got my hood back on and went for a drive and the only whining noise that i could hear was the same with the USIM which was from the long tube cold air intake. nothing really sounds different....are there any other symptoms of a vacuum leak? i'm wondering if i'm just paranoid about it! haha

ddaaaannggg!! i don't know if the computer needed some run time or what but the more i drive the car the faster it goes. the car just flat out hauls. its crazy! i guess the computer needed some time to adjust something

while i did the swap i put in a 300ZX fuel filter.

dang...my gas milage SUCKS! i know i've been on it alot but still....i can practically watch the gauge move driving down the freeway!

i was going to go to the track tonight but its been storming here all day...so hopefully next saturday!!

its nice to be in the club!

oh you know what, i actually have a question.

my stupid msd rpm switch didn't work again so i had to send it off again.
so with that in mind, once i install the 00vi, will the valves be always closed or what? i won't be able to test out its full potential w/o that switch to open the intake valves right?

mine still has the junk yard name on it too!!....oh well.

G4nismo.....you CAN zip tie the Power valve open. its initially in the closed position. i zip tied it open just to see what its like....its definatly pulls ok at high rpm...but its MUCH better with the switched hooked up. world of a difference...much better when it pulls freakin hard the whole time!

i'm using a summit rpm switch. 50 bucks...it works perfect!

very very clean man! keep us updated with your swap! its really not too bad..as long as you've done your research youll be just fine!

good luck!

but from my understanding vacuum would open the valve at lower rpm and close it as upper rpm which is the opposite of what you want....since there is no vacuum at high rpm....so i think the only way to open it with out a switch is to physically tie it open.

welcome to the VI maxima's. I had the same feeling when i first got my VI you hit rev like there is no 2mrw. I did my VI together with the knock sensor and it was like driving a freaking super car compared to my old USIM and dead knock.

Now with the VI + 2.87 pulley + wide band and proper tuning = unimaginable things.
