LS4 Swap
LS4 Swap
I just came up with the idea of maybe taking a 4th gen maxima or 5th gen and swapping in GM's LS4 5.3L V8 motor i mean the 240 guys swap in ls1's into there cars i mean I think it would be cool to try this? anyone agree I mean its something different. rather then seeing DEK's or VQ35 go into 4th gens just to have a turbo or whatever I mean i think it would be cool to hear a V8 maxima driving down the road. I am sure there would be alot to it. like swapping out wiring harness etc. I am sure the 240 guys had to do that as well.

Duck down - run away fast ..... erase this thread and hope nobody notices...
You are going to catch a lot of cr*p over this thread - fair warning - and the reason is that none of the 4th or 5th gen maximas are RWD - they're all FWD. If you have any experience with real car building, you'll realize just how complicated this project will become. This subject comes up once in a while - and the OP always gets handed their head on a platter.

Just because the LS4 is FWD doesn't make it simple. Let's assess what makes it "FWD":
-It has been designed to mate to current GM FWD transmissions
-It has been designed to bolt into existing GM W-body motor mounts
So, eliminate those two criteria and you're left with a whole lot of nothing to work with. You would need custom motor mounts, a custom wiring harness, and some way to bolt the block to a Nissan FWD transmission OR custom axles/CV joints to mate the GM transmission to the Maxima hubs/brakes/suspension. This is assuming any of this fits in the first place. Also, let's not forget that the aftermarket for the LS4 is virtually nonexistent.
So, still want to do that swap?

Switching from metric and standard bolts can be annoying, not to mention the full wiring job to a custom ECU (megasquirt) and all the other problems you will run into, not too mention how hard it would be to fit it all in there.
