My VQ30DE Build

I am starting the build on my 95 vq30de in a month or so, would have started a month ago, but just purchased at 350z for the wife. Anyways, my local machine shop is going to hot tank, resurface, deck the head and bore it out 1mm & all that good stuff. The link I have provided is for the internals for the block except the rods, i don't know where i can find good forged rods. Any ideas and any comments on the kit would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

It is number 19 down on the list.

Not worth the money. I'd skip it and source everything seperately. I'd also skip the copper head gasket altogether, personally.

Any ideas or websites where I can find the parts so I can source it all out seperately?

That website has everything there for seperately priced (it is an overpriced kit, with unneccessary stuff)

What exactly do you want to do?

are you boring out the block 1mm? Cause then the pistons will have to be completely custom with rings too match...

Its alot of money to build engines, I've already found that out.

I am looking to fully build the bottom end first, forged pistons & rods etc... Yes i am going to bore out the block 1mm, i have built two other engines in the past just not
vq30's, i am just looking for part guidance, as far as where to locate performance internals for the engines.

post the parts you want and we will let you know.

Honestly, your better off swaping in 3.5 and camming it...its cheaper and will probably yield better performance.

Take a look at the High-compression vq35de build a few threads down.

Having customs rods will cost you alone 1200$ US, but those rods will be good up to 1200HP, is this necessary ? Well if you want your engine to be around 400HP to the wheel the Nissan stock rod will hold just fine, Dave B has a friend that is running like 410HP to the wheel and the stocker rods are just fine.

If you still want much stronger rods, you can contact Steve at Top-end Performance topend@earthlink.net

He already have one of my VQ30DEK rods so it should be a no brainer to order a custom set, the lead time is 6 weeks.

I was about to order a set but after thinking twice about it, I felt it was not necessary, I mean to me 400HP to the wheel on a FWD is more than enough.

4thgenlewis07 does said machine shop have the torque plates for doing VQ30s? I'm looking to get mine honed and really don't want to make one if I can

Uncharted for a reason, lol.

Same price for parts as a 3.5 pretty much. If anything a lot more.

To each his own though. In my experience a 3.0 fanatic is a person who is scared of a 3.5 swap. (Me) until I overcame that fear and just dont understand what I was thinking with the 3.0.

My VQ30DEK doesn't burn oil, but I know many owner with the VQ35 that have engine that are thirsty for oil.

Well if you're going to build up an engine anyway, the oil burning thing becomes a total non-factor.

WOW - That is exactly how I felt - until I built my own 3.5, I had no idea what I was missing out on. Now I'm hooked and starting on my next (and much more radical) 3.5 build.

Oil is cheap, horsepower is expensive. I voted for the horsepower....
